Have Sony just gained themselves access to what may be the next step in the evolution of gaming? They'll certainly be hoping so. Sensory systems provider amBX technology has signed a deal with Sony to bring their technology to the Playstation 3 system, allowing users to experience entertainment sensory experiences in gaming, including light, rumble sound and air movements.

Sony will undoubtedly be hoping that support for sensory technology will give the PS3 the marketing ammunition to take on Nintendo Wii's motion-sensing technology.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc (SCEI) has sealed a deal with sensory systems provider amBX technology to introduce its products to the PS3 console.

Phillips Research originally developed the ambient technology, which uses special peripherals to enhance the gaming experience.

Despite being initially designed specifically for the PC, Sony has signed a middleware licensing agreement to bring the technology to PS3 gamers.

Jo Cooke from amBX said: "This is a major milestone in the development of amBX as a ubiquitous standard for entertainment sensory experiences.

"The agreement with SCEI will allow us to bring amazing light, rumble, sound and air movement experiences to game users."

Developers will also be encouraged incorporate amBX functionality into forthcoming console titles.

It actually bears no resemblance to the technology, just for the record. The source offered no pictures so I just searched around for something that looked vaguely interesting.

Sounds like Sony have a few cool features to add which could help with sales and stuff. The real question is whether these things will make any difference.

    Sensory technology, meh.

Sounds like a load of crap to me.

And plus it'll be VERY pricey, so it won't bother sales much.

It will be pricey i remember seeing starter kits for amBX retailing at just under $2000 and that wasn't even going to get you the full setup. It's a very good system kinda like AmbiLight technology in some televisions that lights up the surround and back wall to make the image seem more seamless.

I think this is old news. Recent article maybe, but old news. Would you believe Sony are actually taking interest in the perfecting of a remote control that can control people? I'm not lying, a person dons what looks like ear muffs and it uses electricity that goes through the ears and affects the person, causing them to turn this way and that way, and do a few other things. It can be resisted, but if subjected to it long enough, testers have said that you'd end up really "wanting" to do what you're resisting.
