While some consoles have an obvious icon, Sony has always had a grey line between their icons. One could argue that Sackboy is the PS3's icon, but what about the PSP? While Sony was talking about Loco Roco 2's release date, they boldly claimed that Loco Roco is the PSP's icon. Do you think that is fitting?

With all the talk last year about LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy being the PlayStation 3's 'mascot,' nobody really thought about the PS3's poor younger sibling -- the PSP. It's been around much longer than the PS3 but has had an even harder time finding a standout character, unique to the system, that provides a sort of summation of the device's strengths and appeal. Well it looks like Sony might finally be prepping the darling LocoRocos to become the Pokemon of their handheld.

Included in today's press release regarding the imminent arrival of LocoRoco 2, Sony breathlessly declared LocoRoco as the PSP's 'icon.' While not fully coming out and calling the little blobs of fun the PSP's mascot, it seems pretty obvious that Sony is trying hard to great an identifiable character for the PSP. LocoRocos are a reasonably solid choice as well, since they're cute and recognizable and they show off the system's crisp and clear screen. Also... they're one of the only PSP exclusive characters on the system -- I mean I love love Patapons but they're not really 'iconic' material, and outside of that there's really not much to choose from.

I'd have to disagree with this. Loco Roco has been popular, but it's severely under appreciated to the likes of the Monster Hunter series, which is absolutely tremendous in the fact that it is perfectly created for the PSP. The game pretty much sold the PSP within Japan, and that is no easy feat.

Definitely, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G sold well over a million copies in Japan, over 800,000 copies in the first sales week.

And I've never played the Loco Roco 2 demo, so I'm sure I haven't played the hell out of it, let alone play any Loco Roco game. They just don't seem too interesting.

I would man, if I had a psp. and money But it's claiming to be the "symbol" of the Psp. Sackboy or master chief or sonic, are all pretty memorable as the symbols of their own systems. Just from looking at this, immediatley, it doesn't do that for me. If it was the SYMBOL of the Psp, all that would be needed is to take one look at it, judging the book by its cover so-to-speak, and you'd immediately know what it is and who it is, and it'd have that same level of power that those other characters have.

I got LocoRoco 2 just now, played maybe 24 minutes and THIS IS AN AMAZING GAME. Deserves to be PSP's Icon... BTW Monster Hunter doesn't count, it's from CAPCOM not Sony. it need to be a SONY Product.
