Nintendo is continuing their efforts to prevent piracy from running rampant throughout the world for their products. However, the only way for Chinese gamers to play the Wii is through illegal imports.

Nintendo doesn’t want Chinese gamers playing their games at all if there is a regulatory ban in China for game consoles, yet a growing wealth of consumers willing to pay for such consoles. Nintendo’s estimate of the situation is as follows: “China continues to be the hub of production for counterfeit Nintendo video game products. The number of online shopping sites in China selling infringing Nintendo products is increasing, and help is needed by the government to curtail the growth of these illegal marketplaces.”

Nintendo just want to get what is rightfully theirs and from their stand point they aren't taking away the rights of Chinese gamers, they just aren't giving them the special treatment they need to bypass their own laws. Is it unfortunate, yes; is it unfair, somewhat, yes; is it Nintendo's fault, no, I don't think so.

I don't see any reason to drag politics into this. It is unfortunate but they don't want to look like they are giving them special treatment.

What's interesting is that Chinese gamers don't get a say-so in what their Government won't let them play. It's also interesting that Nintendo seems to have no interest in finding a way to tap the Chinese gaming market, which is like 68million or so.

Thank goodness, though, the US Government doesn't dictate what gamers can and cannot play.
