God Of War has a huge fan base, but the problem is a lot of them don't even own PS3's. This means a huge loss of potential buyers for Santa Monica. God Of War 3 still has nearly a year before release, and hype will continue building. Hopefully by then, most of them will be ready for Krato' onslaught.

Talking as part of Gamasutra's latest 'Analyze This' column, OTX's Nick Williams says that, according to his company's data, one third of those who plan to purchase God Of War III have yet to buy a PS3, implying a major bump for hardware sales when the game debuts.

Analysts including Williams were questioned as part of this month's column dealing with the major turmoil in the world economy, and how it might affect the game industry.

Maybe God of War 3 is supposed to be a PlayStation 3 seller. Did Metal Gear Solid 4 sell a lot of consoles? I don't remember, so maybe someone can shed some light on that.

I cant remember figures, but yes it did. But not enough, I don't think (though fanboys would probably disagree).

      Edit: here they are.

It got annihilated by the Wii. So did the 360. They both got beat by the Wii. But it's the Wii.

Those three little words speak volumes.

About the article, I think most of us know how the majority of analysts feel toward the PS3. Until Sony gets ahead of the game, these guys always publish something saying Sony needs another price drop, or they're doing this wrong, or that... such and such.

Honestly, I'm expecting God of War 3 to help sell more PS3s. It's one of those games a lot of people bought PS3s for (like MGS4, FFXIII), and I'm expecting sales to spike again around launch date.

          Guess we'll see.

I'm getting my PS3 in June for my Birthday.

I'm not a HUGE fan of the series, but it is a game i will be buying a PS3 for, along with LBP, Ratchet and Clank, MGS4 (Even though i've already previously beat it) Uncharted, Infamous and a few others.

    But NOT for KZ2 or R2 =|

R2 kinda sucked, but Killzone 2 is pretty good.

I can imagine this game will eventually move a sh*tload of consoles when it releases. I wouldn't doubt if the game sent Sony into the lead; God of War is a blockbusting title that just never seems to disappoint.

Is there not about a 10 million gap in the console sales between XBOX and PS3?

I sincerely doubt God of War has anywhere close to 30 million fans.

          Red 9* Mar 4, 09
Actually the difference is a little over 5.5 Million.

Resistance 2 didn't suck. It just wasn't very good either. It was average.

You should definitely pick up a copy of Ratchet and Clank, that game is ridiculously good.

I played the demo. It was pretty sweet, but I had my eye on another game at the time and never got around to trying the full R&C game.

I don't get where all this bias against R2 comes from. It's different, but that kept it from going stale as a lot of other games have. I love the title.

          lol.

It's not different, that's where all this dislike (not bias, again lol) comes from.

Not different? It's practically a different franchise, they changed the shooting style, the weapon system, the co-op system, the friends and party system, the Intel system.

It's nothing like R:FOM, though I still love it.

And that is why it isn't as good as the first. Some are understandable and are addition, but they should have kept the same online system with new features instead of revamping it.

Um no, I am not talking nonsense, if you honestly think its not different then you must have barely played the game. The shooting maniacs were changed from its arcade style to a more realistic COD method. Instead of holding as many weapons as you wanted you can only hold two. You can't play co-op in singleplayer anymore but rather in its own mode. The party system was merged with the menu. There is no longer Intel for different enemy types and most of the rest was transferred to co-op reports. As LPF said not all are great (though I don't find competitive as bad as others say) but bloody hell it was one heck of a shift. Just compare it to how much the Ratchet and Clank games have changed over the years, I bet the whole series in all its games hasn't changed as much as Resistance did from R:FOM to R2.

Sorry if I seem like I'm attacking you, but if your complaining there wasn't much change then I really can't see many players agreeing with you.

I'm definitely getting GoW3, even though I never played any of the other GoW games.

I hope KZ2 is decent...I'm actually considering buying it before Halo Wars, and I loved Halo Wars' demo.

You should definitely look into getting the first 2. I got them off eBay for £20 and tbh, it's probably the best £20 I've spent on eBay.

Why are is this spun as a bad story. That third of the people is now MUCH more likely to buy a Sony console by the time the game is released. More consoles = more sales other than God of War = More money for Sony.

      Koloth Mar 4, 09
I suppose these analysts and writers don't know how a system seller works. The game sells the system, thus the 1/3 of fans that don't have the console will buy it to play that game. Those that can't afford it... To bad. Not hard to save $400.

God of War 3 is the first game I'd buy if I were to buy a PS3 when it was out.

    reaver11 Mar 4, 09
Well I'll bet that those 1/3 fans will have one no less than a year after it comes out. You just watch a God of War trailer and imediately want to start playing one.

Well, God of War will be the best game on the PS3, so if there was ever a reason to get the system, this game is it.

After finally catching up with the story by playing GoW 1 and 2(both are still graphical artworks considering when they were released), I'm even more excited for this game. Definitely GOTY imo if it comes out in 2009.

Mmmm, if God of War 3 dawns with a PS3 price cut at its side, I would say it has a unstoppable chance of being a best-seller.

      Koloth Mar 5, 09
Wouldn't that be a major coup. I could see a run on the game shops the day that went down. God of War 3 bundle for $350. The day the PS3 stomped the Wii.

        Shinobi_razor Mar 5, 09
maybe for a day but PS3 will never outsell the Wii for total sales. nothing will. not even PS3 and 360 sales combined comes close to the Wii.
        • 0
          Koloth Mar 6, 09
True. But even outselling the Wii for a day is pretty impressive. To date the PS3 has only done it once, when the MGS4 bundle was released. And the 360 has yet to do it on a world wide scale.

funny, i am one of those 1/3 who dont own a PS3. actually, i havent gotten to play GOW2, so maybe im not that big of a fan.
