Rumors appeared the other day about female versions of Big Daddies. Everyones first reaction was of course, Big Mommas. Well it is true that there will be a female version, she isn't a momma though, but a Big Sister.

Game Informer's April cover confirms what Kotaku readers already knew: Big Sister will greet gamers when they land in BioShock 2's Rapture later this year.

The cover shows off the new creature, which we described as an amazonian version of the Big Daddy, wearing similar, though svelter, gear. The image depicts a Little Sister riding on the back of the Big Sister in a sort of papoose cage.

There we have it. One badass character right there, looks tough to fight already and we haven't seen it move yet haha.

Wow, they pulled that off. I was worried about these new "big sisters" and thought that they'd probably be shit, but that actually looks OK.

Hrmmmmm...What's the betting Bioshock 3 will introduce Big Mommas?

I dunno though, are these little sisters that somehow grew up or something?

They really seem closer related to Big Daddies than Little Sisters (gender nonwithstanding).

What do you mean somehow grew up?

And the teaser trailer shows a grown up little sister holding a Big Daddy doll. So yeah it grew up.

I think what tallteen is trying to say is that "are these Big sisters the little sisters from the first one but transformed?"

Which if you've played the first one and followed the many twists and turns of the plot, it would be a valid theory considering how the "good ending" ends.

Looking forward to returning to rapture and yes I think from the looks of this one, we'll be needing a lot more firepower

That blank spot in my post is actually supposed to be a spoiler, wasn't sure if they worked on Gamegrep or not. I forgot what I said exactly, but it was talking about the good ending.

But yeah, I agree that they are indeed grown Little Sisters that went back to Rapture.

I can also somehow see them crawling/jumping around the walls ceiling too ~_~

They'd be less of a defensive/offensive tank (compared to Big Daddies) I imagine though.

I wonder if they'll be more or less common than BDs?

Which will keep them in the same league as Big Daddies.

Sisters = Agile but Weak, Daddies = Strong but...slow-ish.

I'm definitely expecting these things to be much faster than the Big Daddies. I just hope they don't have the same power. I wonder if they'll walk around moaning still :-O

      BANDITO ATTACK Mar 12, 09
oh god the female enemies suddenly can't possibly be as strong as big daddies because theyre women
where is the obligatory 3 paragraph femenist commentary on this one? you all are slacking.

Tiger of Wu Mar 12, 09
        It's simple deduction.

The Big Sisters mentioned on the viral site are said to be really fast, so to balance it out it would only make sense to have them be weaker, because the Big Daddies in the original were strong but fairly slow. Unless if they were to actually make the Big Sister fights a real challenge in this one which, considering the current decline in difficulty for the sake of the shit, is doubtful.

Oh, it was a joke. I see now. Hey Zero, this guy's mocking you! Oh Bandito, you're in for it now! Prepare to be confused, ZandX style

so there has to be a logical reason why they are called Big Sisters instead of Mommas...

perhaps they are in fact the Little Sisters from the first game but grown up and mutated or something. maybe they can fight like Daddies but can gather ADAM like Sisters also? because if they are directly an analog of Big Daddies but just female, not calling them Mommas is stupid.
    • 0
Tiger of Wu Mar 11, 09
I doubt they can collect ADAM otherwise they wouldn't have a Little Sister in a cage on their back.
    • 2
      GTA_Fanatic Mar 11, 09
      There is a logical reason.

      "Big momma" sounds horrible.
    • 0
      Oogity_Boogity_Boo Mar 11, 09
I agree with GTA Fanatic, but I also think there's a chance that they can gather ADAM. Maybe they're just protecting the Little Sisters, seeing as they're kidnapping little girls all around the world...

But that needle thing definitely looks like a hypodermic needle, which excites me.
      • 0
Tiger of Wu Mar 11, 09
To big to be a needle I think, to me it looks like some kind of jackhammer or maybe even a rifle or flamer (kind of looks like a nozzle before it cuts off).

Besides, if they could get the ADAM then there would be absolutely no point to there being Little Sisters at all. It would be like getting a guide-dog for someone who can see XD
        • 0
          Dragoshi1 Mar 12, 09
I will now state something epicly cool :3

What if that IS a needle, and the little sister in the cage cannot get out? Or, what if the little sister somehow "controls" the Big Sister? And, the needle is for harvesting large quantities of ADAM at once, and with the speed of the Big Sister, they can both clear a large portion of Rapture in possibly a few hours, and maybe also the needle connects to the little sister somehow, so the Little sister controls the "Big Sister" as if the Lil Sis was in the suit.
        • 0
Tiger of Wu Mar 12, 09
Well, considering the Little Sister is poking her head out of the cage and can quite clearly jump out if she wanted too, I highly doubt she can't get out . It's unplausible for the LS's to be controlling the Big Sis' since the Big Daddies were meant to protect the LS's so the BS's shouldn't have too different of a job, plus they should still have intelligence of their own like the BD's so being controlled is unnecessary. Plus, if that was the case, they may as well just armour the LS's. Which brings me to my final point; if that's not some kind of weapon then how will it fight? After the BD's who had drills and guns were taken out by Jack I don't think someone would be stupid enough to make BS's without giving them a weapon, and that's the only thing that even passes for a weapon they appear to have.

Pretty much, as said above, if the Big Sis' can harvest ADAM then there is no point whatsoever to having a Little Sis'.
        • 0
          Dragoshi1 Mar 12, 09
          Yeah there is

What if the Big Sis is fighting off something too strong for the lil sis? After the big sis kills it, she can inject it with her needle, and store the ADAM for the little sister for later. Remember, the little sister must recycle ADAM in her digestive system, so it is plausible for the big sis to be able to store ADAM, plus the cage could be a "sheild", while the lil sis rides on her. Big daddies had no sheild/cage to protect a little sister
        • 0
Tiger of Wu Mar 12, 09
I know why the cage is there

My point is, if the Big Sis' could store ADAM, the Little Sis' being with her is pointless. I evidently misworded it. Why carry her on her back when she's just going to do all the work and give her the ADAM later?
        • 0
          Dragoshi1 Mar 12, 09
Well, maybe in the new setting of being a few years after Bioshock 1, the splicers have gotten smarter and can set traps for the lil sisters who wander up to dead things and stick a needle in?

The Big Sisters can scare the splicers and gather ADAM safely for the Lil sis
        • 0
Tiger of Wu Mar 12, 09
At least seven years after. And again, if the Big Sisters could collect ADAM on their own, they would merely need to drop it off to the Little Sisters at the holes in the wall they come out of, thus eliminating the need to put them in danger AT ALL.

So there would be no need to have them on their back in a cage, period.

The game is already looking AWESOME.

I'm loving the needle attached to the big sisters and the fact that instead of the little sister following behind them they have to hold themselves in a cage on the big sisters shoulder!

Definitely means that the big sisters will be insane monkey women xD

Just a quick fact which changes everything.

The GameInformer web site says that people are assuming something. It doesn't say Big Sisters await. It says Big Sister awaits. Huge difference.

    It's Tenenbaum, tbh.
    • 0
      GTA_Fanatic Mar 12, 09
That's the best point that's been made so far. Tenenbaum certainly fits the bill. She was like a "big sister" to the little sisters as well.

I remember similar articles about Bioshock 1 in magazines, it only mentioned big daddy's in singular too like 'watch out! biggy daddy is coming for you', doesn't mean that there was only one.

"Yesterday, we blew the doors off of our April cover, revealing BioShock 2. A lot of you are very excited about the prospect of heading back down to Rapture to meet the Big Sister. And that’s where the confusion seems to come from. Disregard the rumors around the Web and check out the cover. Take a moment and read it slowly out loud. We'll wait. "Big Sister" awaits your return, not "Big Sisters". That's a small, but critical, distinction. Hmmmm… And just wait until you find out what happened to the Big Daddies! That’s all for now, to find out more, check your mailboxes, as the new issue should start arriving in a few days!"

Tiger of Wu Mar 12, 09
That's only plausible if she went batshit insane, which would suck storywise (and 2K are good at stories).

Plus the Sister is 6'10 (it says on the viral site) and Tenenbaum was nowhere near that tall.
      • 0
        Oogity_Boogity_Boo Mar 12, 09
The suit could add a foot and a half, technically.

And I don't agree that it would suck storywise. She's the only powerful figure left in Rapture after the original game, and she gets corrupt and drunk with power. She goes to the Big Daddy lab or w/e it was and creates her own suit.

I think that's the most likely story at this point, at least until someone actually gets the magazine.
        • 0
Tiger of Wu Mar 13, 09
Her arms and legs are clearly not mechanical since they're thin, so unless if it's a full robot then the person in the suit is that size.

And the fact that she was so intent on saving them in the first one would make it totally suck if she was trying to make more in this one; it would be like releasing The Passion of the Christ 2 in which Jesus kills everyone. Besides, why would she still be in Rapture? You don't think she'd escape with Jack and the Sisters at the first available oppurtunity?
