You may have gotten to play a small section of the original Bioshock, but according to Game Informer in Bioshock 2 you'll spend the entire game as one! You get your own Little Sister to protect and help harvest, there is a mulitplayer mode confirmed and apparently you can get jumped by the Big Sister at any time in the game, it occurring when you kill too many too Big Daddies.

It’s 10 years since the first game. The Big Sister returns to rapture, bringing back the Little Sisters with her. You play as the original Big Daddy. You can use the drill, the rivet gun, and you can still use plasmids.

• Little Sisters have been given a new look to be less creepy, as you’re seeing them from the eyes of their protectors. You don’t get your own Little Sister from the start, as you’re a renegade Big Daddy. So you fight other Big Daddies to get your own sister. You can still harvest them, but the other option has been changed to “adopt” instead of rescue. If you adopt the sister, she’ll ride on your shoulders, and you can go around Rapture looking for corpses for her to collect ADAM from. When your sister goes to harvest ADAM, a wave of Splicers will come and start attacking to try and harvest her. You have to hold them off until she finishes harvesting. You gain some ADAM from this, but not enough to tide you through the game. You can permanently rescue them, but the article doesn’t say how.

• The Big Sister is one of the surviving little sisters from the last game. She’s the new ruler of Rapture, and is the main antagonist of the game. With each Big Daddy you kill, the game lets you know how close you are to incurring the wrath of the Big Sister. When you do, the little sister you’re with will sing a song about how the Big Sister doesn’t want you playing with her, then you get jumped.

Awesome news. I'm anticipating this game so much, it's ridiculous.

I really hope that you have a sense of power in this game, like you're better than splicers and whatnot. I'm not saying it should be easy, but splicers should only be able to bring you down with numbers.

This game needs to be only half as good as the first and I will still love it to bits.

    Bioshock is just gaming perfection.

You don't just play as a rogue big daddy, you play as THE big daddy lol.

Sweet. I should definitely get the first one, now.

Didn't really like the first one, but this sounds awesome...

I thought the first one was good but not enough to buy it.But I like the sound of this.

I hope it doesn't move slowly all the time and have obsurced vision like in the first one.

also glad the little sisters have changed, i hated how they looked man it creeped me out

It would suck if we still have the obscure vision and such.

I loved how the Little Sisters looked, because that's how they would have looked if they were real. They were meant to be creepy and freak people out so that people were less likely to bother them.

Depending on how the 'Daddy controls, this could either be a genius move, or game suicide.

I like the sound of the expanded plasmid setup. The Big Sister also sounds like it would be an insane fight. Though how they stated it, I wonder if the world is more free roam than the last one.

I don't know about that. It sounds like you all like the idea, but me personally? I've always hated having to play the game from the other side of the spectrum.

I doubt I'll get the game, but for the fan's sake, I hope indeed that the controls are good, and it's a good move for the devs to make. Otherwise Bioshock will go out with no bang, but a bad taste in the mouths of many.

Tiger of Wu Mar 14, 09
It's not looking on it from the other side of the spectrum really, since you're a rogue Big Daddy fighting against the other Big Daddies and Big Sister. You're on the same side of the spectrum, just looking out with different eyes.

    BANDITO ATTACK Mar 14, 09
so they took the on part of the game that i totally *bleep*ing hated and expanded it into an entire sequel. i couldn't care any less about this game if i tried (and i am)

really, who actually liked standing stationary fending off annoying ass spider splicers while little goldilocks trots behind you with the speed of a thousand snails, taking her dear sweet time extracting adam?

      Oogity_Boogity_Boo* Mar 14, 09
Agreed on that, but this time you actually ARE a Big Daddy. In the last game you were essentially Jack with slower movement.

Tiger of Wu Mar 14, 09
I can agree with you on some points there, but hopefully they change it up for the sake of this game. For example, in this one the Little Sister is on your shoulders so you can go at your speed and not have to wait for her. Having to defend her from splicers whilst she rapes corpses with the needle still sounds like the same boatload of fun it once was though >_>

Seriously guys, do you really expect this to be the whole and main thing about the game, thats like saying all you do in B1 is spend ages hacking bots. i highly expect this to be just one of those things you rarely actually do.

Tiger of Wu Mar 14, 09
You play as a Big Daddy. If you want ADAM (I assume the Plasmid upgrade system will be similar to the first one) without Harvesting a Sister, you have to adopt her and protect her as she sucks ADAM from corpses.

No-one is saying it's the whole and main thing (Well, BANDITO kind of is), but it's going to be fairly frequent, frequent enough to be annoyed about anyway.

TBH It sounds crap aswell. Every time you want adam you have to let her harvest it, and every time she does you have to fend off waves of splicers.

That would suck like every time having to just keep killing wave after wave of splicer.
      • 0
Tiger of Wu Mar 15, 09
Well, you can always just harvest the sister.

          Slumpy monkey Mar 15, 09
Yeah but what if you want to play the good side.

It makes the game unbalanced. How good players have to fight off a wave of splicers every time while the evil characters will just have to harvest them.

It would make practically everyone just play evil. Plus no one likes just fighting waves of enemies.

True. They're probably playing on the old cliche 'It's hard to be good' [/fanboy]

Let's hope they realise how bad it is from a gameplay perspective and change it up before release (or let's hope it isn't as bad as it sounds).

Hmmm... I don't really think this is a good idea. There will be no real story, no human characters to meet, it will just be repetitive gameplay over and over and you won't even need to use plasmids, money or make your own guns. I hope this info is wrong, tbh. I loved the twist with Ryan and Fontaine from the first game, but they won't be able to pull tht off again if they make you some emotionless Big Daddy.

Tiger of Wu Mar 14, 09
The guy's a rogue Big Daddy who is fighting to save the Little Sisters; fairly obvious that he isn't emotionless.

Doesn't make it any less of a cliché though.

      Raziel_326 Mar 14, 09
That's a really bad assumption. They just released a little bit of information about the game, for all you know they may have something real good in store for us. I can see a good story being made out of the original big daddy.

    King Bubsgonzola Mar 14, 09
I just had a thought, you won't be able to pick up and switch guns unless he is clever enough, although his hands will be too big.

Tiger of Wu Mar 14, 09
Hence why the main focus of this game is Plasmids, which they've said they're expanding and diversifying to compensate.

      Oogity_Boogity_Boo* Mar 14, 09
And to add to what Tiger of Wu said, you already have the drill and the rivet gun. What more could you want?

I sure want more variety then 2 weapons, not counting plasmids. thats for sure

i'm sorry i really dont believe that one at all...seems too far fetched for me..Maybe its true but i'm calling Bull on that one

      Raziel_326 Mar 15, 09
How do you call bull? Did you even click the source article? Plenty of screenshots to prove you play as a Big Daddy.

      Shinobi_razor Mar 16, 09
whats so hard to believe about being a Big Daddy? you still get to use Plasmids, and the Daddy's weapons which is awesome. i bet they will take the customization 1 step further and allow you to upgrade your Daddy suit as well as the drill and rivet gun.
  • 0
    Shinobi_razor Mar 15, 09
you get to be a Daddy? sweet.

im thinking though, youll be able to upgrade your suit, and that will be a big catch, like upgrading weapons before, you upgrade your movement speed, dashing ability with the drill, and effectiveness of the rivet gun.

i hope the Little Sisters call you a funny name like Mr Bubbles.

Wow...simply wow. I still need to play Bioshock, but I was turned away from the ambiance of the game(too dark). The story seems just too interesting to resist. And Bioshock 2, just from what I've heard of it so far, sounds like another contender for GOTY'09.

I'm not quite sure what to think on this, whether or not its a good or a bad thing.

We'll just have to wait and see I 'spose

i don't really wanna play as a big daddy.. they're fat and slow :c

    DystopiaSticker Mar 16, 09
Kinda mixed reactions from me. The Big Daddy section of the original really was the worst part of the game. I'm sure they'll develop the Little Sisters more though so they aren't a pain in the ass if they're the focus of BioShock 2.

Also, how awesome would it be to be the Big Daddy that killed Dr. Suchong in the original? For some reason that would be awesome to me. I'd love to hear more about origins of Fontaine Futuristics and all the other stuff too, so the story should be great.

Still. Honestly I would have preferred to be a soldier working for Fontaine, or even part of the security with Sullivan. Either way, I'm buying 2 for sure.
