Electronic Theatre reveals the release date for the first in Electronic Arts' Need for Speed revival attempts, Need for Speed SHIFT, on PS3, 360, PSP and PC.

Players are thrust into the loud, intense, and athletic experience of racing a car from the driver’s perspective through the combination of perception based G-forces, the hyper reality of the cockpit view, and the all-new brutally disorienting crash dynamic. Need for Speed SHIFT features an accurate, accessible physics-based driving model that allows you to feel every impact, every change of track surface and every last bit of grip as you push yourself to the edge.

I don't care anymore about NFS. Most wanted was the best. After that they have ALL been terrible. This will suck as well. EA can sure pump out games fast though.

Carbon was a very good game, and was just about as good as Most Wanted and I played them both to 100% completion.

But all the other games are just shite...

Need for Speed does a simulator. Really interested now and see how it'll compare to Gran Turismo.

Polyphony are one of the most anal developers out there. They like to make sure every little detail is included in their games. Of course, excluding car damage (thank God GT5 is finally including that). I doubt NFS could top the GT series.

Yeah i think that is why previewers are comparing Shift to the likes of PGR, GRID and Forza. I think if this game finds the perfect balance between realistic simulation (Forza) and arcade simulation (PGR) then it will be one hell of a fun and intense game. I just hope they overhaul the lacking customisation features and add the level of insane customisation that Forza 2 enjoyed.

Bloody exactly. And NFS:SHIFT has a what? 1 year development cycle? Gran Turismo titles take time for a reason. Something WILL be lost in translation with this title, and it will be a shoddy simulator I would estimate.

Very interesting to see how this shapes up.

Despite this article being about SHIFT, I find myself getting excited for GT5 rather than this game...fancy that, eh?

And rightfully so! Lets just consider the past few NFS. I can remember they have tried to "reinvent" and "revive" their franchise a few times. Teabagging a dead horse here I think. Or at least they could spend a few years on a NFS title.
