A reply to a message on the PlayStation Blog about the new "Xi" Home game from a Sony Dude officially confirms that features like Cross Game Chat, Voice Messaging, as well as Game Launching for Home are all in development. The person who confirmed this is CydoniaX, one of the Community Managers for PlayStation Home.

No joke, we finally have confirmation!!

When are we getting game launching abilities for every multiplayer game in the PS3 library? Why is it that the most basic of features for both the XMB and HOME get prioritized and delivered before all the extra stuff?

1) XMB - Voice Chat across games
2) XMB - Voice messaging(30 sec clip)
3) HOME - Game Launching for all games

Deliver what the fans want first and foremost then surprise us with all this Xi stuff.

All that stuff is still in development, game launching started with Warhawk and should be supported by all future game spaces now. It takes time, but we haven’t forgotten about all the stuff that our users really want!

Good news, people may now sigh in relief about the cross game chat feature and hardly use it anyways.

How come when community managers confirm information for PS3, and you all buy it. But when the same people confirm that Bioshock won't have a Subtitle, everyones like 'lol community managers don't know anything buhuhuh'

If I remember this was posted as a rumor a few months ago and some greppers slammed the submitter due to the source... Looks like that source was right - sure these are features that are no-brainers and could have been guessed, but looks like that old story was dead on.

Unfortunately we probably won't see these features until FW 4.00. Still, the fact that they're coming puts it on par with Live, plus it's free.

Which is fantastic, as it pressures Microsoft to revaluate their service and reduce the price to something which refects their own service, as well as their competitions.

As such, it should be free. I am fast loving PSN more than XBL because of that fact. It is a little lesser in terms of content and layout, but its free, so one simply cannot complain about such little differences..

4.00? Hell no. I hope you we're being sarcastic there. I've read that the 3.00 will come out in June from a reliable source (same person who was right about these features being in development, actually) and 2.70 will come out this week possibly which may or may not include these features. Apparently developers got it yesterday. Read Linken Park Fan's GDC article (it is concrete, too)

Nice. Now there's the obligatory 3 year gap between announcement and launch typical with Sony. We're gettin' close!

The only reason that happened was because Sony didn't know what the PS3's hardware would be like until it was near complete. If you don't know what kind of code or how things will work on a piece of hardware... how can you develop for it? Microsoft already had XBL last generation - all they did is re-skin it and add maybe a few new features. The 360 isn't very hard to code for and doesn't have anything special like the Cell and so they could easily port it to the 360 with no problems.

I'm talking more things like basic online features that took absolutely forever to be released on PSN (things like accessing menus in-game really shouldn't take a year and a half after release of the console) and Home. Not necessarily the numerous PS3 exclusives that were announced when I was a sperm in my dad's balls that couldn't have been developed for until late in the PS3's creation, or even anything announced before the PS3's release.

Home is the reason why all the PSN features took so long, now that they've finally got it out the door they can focus on other things.

Its not out the door, Its in beta. Its been worked on still, they have just got it far enough for it to work. Its what people keep forgetting, its a beta, not the finished article. Home wont be "out the door" till its done and dusted, I.e everything is ready and the only thing they work on is maintenance and maybe a few updates here and there.

And it's been in beta for almost five months already. Don't you think they'd go ahead and release it now? I'm pretty sure they said what we have now is the final, and it's still called "beta" because it's always being updated. If there is a final verison we haven't seen, it probably won't be out the door until much later in the PS3's life, if not near the end of it.

Nothing surprising there. There was an interview with the PSN boss a good while back. Maybe a year ago, and he said they were wanting to put those things on the PSN and would start working on them as time came along.

So, well I guess he was right, about what he was wanting to do.

So this whole hubbub turned out to be some lame graffiti mark in HOME? That is freakin' lame...

      Oh god dammit

I suppose that stuff is still pretty good, but if they can do it in Home surely they can easily implement it into the XMB?

Guys this has now been debunked by CydoniaX (the same person who posted the message) it was just a mis-understanding. But it still doesn't change the fact that I think they are working on them for the 3.00 update.

I agree though, I do believe they will be doing those things sometime within a year's time. Two if they dawdle.
