Invent Games have officially announced a brand new game exclusively for the Playstation 3 at GDC. The game is an action adventure game taking gameplay styles of God Of war and DMC and using a unique cartoon art style. All good news coming from GDC so far.

Update: First screenshots and artwork has been revealed at eurogamer.

Thought Sony unofficially announced Strength of the Sword yesterday when detailing their PhyreEngine 2.40 update, Invent Games officially unveiled the game earlier today at GDC. Strength of the Sword is a 3rd person action game, similar in design to beat 'em up games like Devil May Cry or God of War. The game also features a very unique art design, offsetting the hyper violent action with a more Saturday morning cartoon look, similar to the PS2 cult hit, Mark of the Kri.

This game can either be really fun or really shitty. Graphic-wise, it looks great and horrible at the same time! Gotta see how it plays before I can give real judgment of the game.

That. Is. Terrible. I dearly hope Sony isn't serious about this...

Oh so an art style determines graphics... This isn't trying to be realistic nor is trying to set a benchmark. This game is cell shaded and is meant to look like that, just like some past Zelda games and Crackdown on Xbox 360. An art style is all it is and personally i like it as we don't have enough cell shaded games.

Not exclusive. From Ivent Games' own site

“Strength of the Sword” (working title) is our first project. The game is 3rd person, fast paced, action beat ‘em up set in a fantasy realm. The game is currently in development for PC and PS3.

    ^Console exclusive then.

I really hope those screenshots are the dummy models designers make as a skeleton. If those are the finished graphics, thats just sad.

It's not an exclusive in any sense if it's on the PC as well as it's on two platforms.

Technically no. But it is considered "console exclusive" if it's only on one particular console, even if it's also on the PC. This is because the PC is not considered a "console." So something is not referred to just "exclusive" alone but further determined by "console exclusive."

Not to start a flame war but Xbox 360 gamers pretty much coined the term console exclusive as thats 90% of their "exclusives". Most of their key exclusive games are on the PC or on the PS3 under a different name *cough* Ninja Gaiden.

Why must the possibly cool games always be games I'm not interested in?

First of welcome to our forums, we are glad to have you here. ^^

I saw your blog and I must say you’ve done a great job with it. Nice work, keep up with it. ^^

“Strength of the Sword” is in the works for PS3 and PC but PS3 is our primary release platform and at the moment we are pushing our efforts towards the PS3 version of the game. On the console side of things the game is in development only for the PS3 not any other console so you’re right that it will be a PS3 exclusive. The PC version of the game is not currently our top priority but we are working on it as well. ^^

One more thing about the game is that “Strength of the Sword” is designed as a PlayStation Network game, not as a BluRay Disk game. I’m mentioning this since we are noticing confusion among the web sites about the game in terms of this. We want to clear this confusion and we’ll try to avoid such in the future. ^^

If there is something else you would like to ask or share with us feel free to post in the forums. ^^

And in that case, it looks good.

      Good,

Like some people mentioned above, just because it uses cell shading, doesn't mean it can't look good. Such as Prince Of Persia

I don't think its so much as cell shading = carp.

I think its just the low standards of graphics all together, I mean Team fortress 2 has really nice cell shading, same with POP and crackdown. But this is a PSN title, and it looks like a decent game for a PSN title.
