Apparently the main reason for the Japanese to hate the 360 is because of the huge power supply brick that is supplied with the 360. Parappa the Rapper creator Masaya Matsuura has said that it's a nasty sight to see and hiding it is not the solution, but not purchasing the console is.

While he moves on to say the PS3 wasn't successful as expected because the console itself was large. The Wii is small and that's the reason it has beaten the two for now.

The 360 has done shit in Japan. Now that that is out of the way, perhaps we can explore why the piece of kit that is loved across America and Europe does such a poor job at selling consoles in the Land of the Rising Sun. Parappa the Rapper creator Masaya Matsuura was on hand to explain why the Japanese simply don’t want a 360.

Speaking at the Nordic Games convention, Matsuura said the problem was with the AC adapter. Presumably, the Japanese don’t like a giant brick lying around in their living room or bedroom as it is an ugly sight to see. Hiding the brick seems not to be the answer, but not buying the machine itself seems to solve the problem for consumers.

The PS3 also came under fire too. Whilst the PS3 has sold notably better than the 360, it still hasn’t done quite as well as hoped. This is not down to the fact that the PS3 is too expensive or the software lineup isn’t that great, but because the PS3 itself is simply too big. Yes it is big, but would it really stop you buying a console, regardless of brand?

Naturally the Wii came away as the winner of the three, although he did confess that the console was hard to develop for.

So Microsoft, will you reduce the size of the brick (or remove it completely) to stand a better chance of winning over the Japanese public? Unlikely, but if MS want to stand any chance of winning over the Far East, they might just want to jot down a few notes.

Thanks for pointing this out king X2. You guys seem to forget that japanese really started the gaming industry. Only MS started to join in late in 2001 with its xbox. Atari, sega, nintendo, etc. They were mostly made by the japanese. What systems have other places made that was successful. None, Except xbox. So basically the japanese knows good systems and games when they see it. Hell half of the cars in America are from japanese makers. If anything, the japanese are intelligent.

That cracked me up, anyways, they have a point though.

I hate the massive power brick too and while the PS3 is physically bigger than the 360, it doesn't have an external power brick. If the 360's power brick were apart of the console itself it would be virtually the same size and collective weight. About twice as many 360 consoles would die too though probably.

Japanese people seem to be VERY superficial when it comes to consoles, huh?

    And others are not?

"Oh no, Nintendo named their system Wii, insert random pee joke here!"

Uhhh, Apparently Americans aren't that concerned about it...Personally if they had a more...in-depth reason why they didn't like it...instead of the shape, maybe it wouldn't be so ridiculous.

Well I trip over the power supply and not the console. How ironic is that?

That's the dumbest thing ever. I really doubt they could possibly care about the size of the system to that extent. If anything, I think the lack of RPGs for the system is what makes it less popular in Japan, and to further support this theory, Xbox 360 sales have increased due to games such as Blue Dragon being released.

Who gives a *bleep* about what the japanese people think about the dang 360?

They obviously don't hate them very much. When I play on Live late at night [after midnight], there are tons of Japanese gamers online.

They might hate it but they still buy them and play them. I'm not too fond of the darn power brick but it didn't stop me or anyone I know from purchasing it and games to go along with it instead of either of the other two consoles.

They don't really buy them. Microsoft has only sold about 300,000 360s over in Japan. People just don't like the system. Even the PS3 has vastly outsold the 360 in Japan.

This has got to be the dumbest argument I have ever heard how does this guy know what millions of people think?

They don't like the 360 because unlike the Wii and PS3 it is made overseas also the 360 simply doesnt have that many games which interest the average Japaneise gamer like RPG's

and how the heck do you think you have any more credentials than the guy writing the article. You can't make a statement like that, how do you know what millions of people think?....hypocrite...

Stop thinking the Japanese have so much hate for US Products...honestly

That's such a lame reason to not buy a 360, the brick.

You can't blame the Japanese to want small things, its [literally] in their genetics.

      Final Blade May 24, 07
Yea nice inside joke maybe you should think b4 posting crap like that. The only thing in there genetics is making futuristic systems, cars and etc where they can say the xbox sucks or dont want to buy it. They didnt make the system they dont need to buy anything other than there products.

Wow, but you never see articles like "Why the PS3 is hated in the United States."

"Microsoft president explains that Americans don't like the PS3 simply because it's so big and heavy, because it reminds them of their obesity."

That's a lame reason to "hate" a console.
