In a recent poll by Famitsu Magazine, they asked their readers to gague how satisfied they were with the consoles they own. Surprisingly, the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii scored the lowest on the 'Composite Satisfaction Score', while the Xbox 360 and PSP scored the highest.

Note that this is only a poll taken by Famitsu readers, and does not represent Japanese gamers as a whole.

Go to the source for the detailed results.

Nintendo DS: According to Famitsu, a common reply was: "There aren't games I really want to play."

Wii: According to Famitsu, a common reply was: "I don't have one."

PSP: According to Famitsu, many are using the PSP for its non-game possibilities and think the PSP has turned into a Monster Hunter machine.

PS3: According to Famitsu, many don't yet have the PS3 because they feel the price is too high. Many also seemed impressed with the PS3's Blu-ray capacity.

XBox 360: According to Famitsu, the reason why many said they do not own an Xbox 360 is dissatisfaction with price and concern with hardware failure issues. Very satisfied users praised the system's networked features and library of foreign titles.

Famitsu also polled users about which games they were most satisfied with. The game that scored the highest satisfaction is PS3 title Demon's Souls. Coming in second place is another PS3 title Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 (aka Yakuza 3). Following behind that PS3 exclusive is multi-platform title Street Fighter IV and Xbox 360 title Star Ocean 4.

Very interesting. I always assumed Japanese people didn't buy the 360 because it was an American made console but apparently not, according to this.

Famitsu is hardly a unbiased source. Their articles show a lot of preference to the 360 for their RPG franchises that have moved to that console. Also, if you check the poll, the sample was approximately 300-400 readers. This is hardly an even cross section, and a very small sample to take away anything but fan-boy bait. Kotaku reported this last week, and it did nothing but that. Also, their satisfaction percent could be called a weak statistic at best. Once again, pure fan-boy bait.

That is how most surveys are done. Have you ever heard of a surveys that are like "About 72% of Americans eat cheese every week" or something like that? They don't ask everyone in America. They just take a few hundred people are expand it to the countries standard.

But what was the sample pool taken from? Their own readers? Or did they actually go to japan and take a poll of the people in the stores? Their own readers would have been biased because hey . . . they read and enjoy Famitsu. But to take them randomly from people in the stores themselves, would prove much more accurate.

A Japanese magazine that prefers the 360 to a fanboy level: yeah brett, that's much more likely than the 360 RPGs actually being pretty good compared to the two PS3 RPGs.

Jesus dude, you really just hate the 360, don't you.

I guess this is also why the 360 is selling so well over there XD

dont you guys know the 360 isn't allowed to be praised EVER?

its so wonderful how every time an article praising sony over m$ crops up - they're rewarded with love and banana stickers. yet when an article that says "360 > PS3" crops up they just catch hate and bitching.

also who gives a flying *bleep* about what japan thinks anymore.

Hm . . . I honestly believe it goes both ways. Really it just depends on who comments and who does not. Fanboys are everywhere. Do you forget about the onslought of "Sony = FAIL" articles not too long ago? I'm just plain glad that it's not as bad as it was. Though I expect the onslought to never cease.

Yeah, but it's cool to hate the 360 and praise the PS3, didn't you know?

Actually, this isn't at all surprising if you think about it. Japanese are more inclined to purchase a Wii because it's a cheap domestic product, holds overall greater appeal with its cute-factor and compact size. It sells itself as a gimmick.

Sony products are pricey, but there's more to consider here than just its video game lineup. Hell, I'm gonna go ahead and say that many PS3 owners chose their console for reasons other than gaming.

On the flip side, not as many Japanese people consider the Xbox 360 when buying a console, so I'm sure the ones who do took more time to consider its worth and weigh the options. Also, if you buy an Xbox 360, it's probably for the games, not Netflix...

AND there's just way more Wii and PS3 owners in Japan. It's like coming to North America and saying more people have experienced tech issues with their iPods than Zunes -- only true because there are more iPod owners than Zune owners.

    Just my two cents.

i would say possibly why 360 is more liked in Japan is because its the only 1 of the 3 thats a foreign console there and most games are North American/European made so they want to check them out to see what games the Western world likes playing and take a break from their games, just like we like playing some of their weird-ass games *COUGH*KATAMARI*COUGH*.

@Darknet- Agreed surveys are done in this matter. But polling 300 readers of a magazine and then coming to the conclusion that Japanese are more satisfied with the 360 is idiocy. The title should say Famitsu readers are generally more satisfied with the 360. That's all this poll showed.
