inFamous is going to be te next big PS3 exclusive to come out soon. You play as Cole who has an amazing arsenal of electric powers. Reserving the game at gamestop will give you a code to allow you unlock a secret power. Sounds like a good reason to reserve it if you ask me.

Reserve inFamous and receive a code that unlocks the GameStop exclusive Gigawatt Blades Power. With electric blades extending from his wrists, a single blow annihilates any foe and transforms Cole's hands into instruments of sheer destruction. Yet still gentle enough to allow for the occasional tickling.

Oh this is just unfair. Now these reservation-exclusive items are just being ridiculous. That sounds like a very important power that a lot of people will miss out on because they didn't preorder. I have no Gamestops within a 70 kilometer radius of my house, so there's no possible way I could get this.

      Online?

This doesn't sound like an important power though, it sounds like a big *bleep* you power that will dominate. Seems to me it's essentially a cheat.

Plus I live in Canada, and as far as I know, EB Games (part of Gamestop, ironically enough) doesn't do these preorder deals. At least not at the locations that are within reasonable distances from me.

You do realise that as all 'exclusive unlockable powers', it'll most likely be a code of some sort that you need to enter, and it'll be on the internet the day of release, meaning people that didn't reserve it will still be able to get it.

Not necessarily anymore. I mean look at other reserve codes. All of the ones I've seen are those for one-time use, given on a card when you pick up the game if you reserved it.

Those that I've seen are either 'downloadable content' codes, which are released eventually anyway (albeit for a price) or in-game codes such as the ones that came with Saints Row 2.

It'll probably be DLC in a few months after release. Whether it'll be free or not is another deal.

Getting kinda tired of the "reserve this and get that" deal. They're just taking advantage of the consumer by putting our backs against the wall. I'm hearing that the demo for inFamous will be available through reservation too. I don't know how true that is, but I wouldn't be surprised. *bleep* Gamestop. I agree that this particular bonus sounds like a cheap way to play the game, but it's the principle. If it isn't this, it's something else.

Well, it's annoying. It's not really taking advantage of anyone, with the exception of World at War there's never been any real advantage to the bonus you get.

That's completely your opinion, and it's going to differ from game to game. Gamestop has put themselves in a position where not only do they control the game sales market, but they are able to acquire these deals where you only get certain bonuses if you order the game early. Not everybody is in a position to get a game early, and not everyone wants to reserve a game they are uncertain of, but they may still want the bonus. As it stands, you only have one option to get access to it.

That's the hard facts of life, my friend. You are presented with a choice: do something you don't normally do and get something you want . . . or keep with what you normally do and miss out on what you normally want.

That's why they give these offers, to GET people to preorder the game who wouldn't normally preorder. To be honest, iLL, you can't really complain . . . it's always like this, and what point would it serve if they DIDN'T do it like this? I didn't want to preorder it either, but now I have to beg the question of what I want more: to not preorder, or to get the ability . . .

Huh, that's like saying Ford is taking advantage of the auto industry by giving free air fresheners.

It's not necessary to enjoy the game.

This seems to be the only reason to make reservations. I mean now its kind of pointless because a store will always have a copy, so its a good way to get more reserves.

As dua;ity said, its probably already an unlockable in the game, or will come out as DLC, reserving just gets it for you right away for free.

Not where I live. If I don't get a game when it comes out, I usually have to make several stops with no guarantees. As I said, this is just one example of the situation as a whole.

I wonder if my EB will have this bonus, or whether I'd have to use my crappy Gamestop?

Meh, I'm not that eager to pre-order, I just hate missing out on these things (curse you game companies! You know me too well ~_~)

At least in the States, EB and Gamestop are the same company. Haha. Either way, though, I have no problems preordering a game I know I'm going to get anyway. A reservation bonus is just icing on the cake, really.

This is getting irritating now, why didn't they just give you something simple like a theme for your PS3? That's all I got when I pre-ordered CoD: WaW.

That power sounds pretty sick...I was just gonna rent this game, but I may need to reserve it and sell it to someone else when I'm done with it.

Like Seproth said it sounds like a cheat power, and will probably be DLC within a few weeks of its release. I don't particularly care for it.

This is just unfair. This better be distributed as FREE DLC a few weeks after release.

HisServant, I already have inFamous reserved, not at Gamestop, because I choose not to support them. Regardless, that's not the problem. I was always going to get the game day 1. My problem is the way they handle this from a business perspective. I really don't care if I get access to this ability or not. I just don't agree with pressuring consumers into pre-ordering for a bonus. Yes, obviously it is done to get more people to pre-order, but at the same time, the developers/publishers obviously have a part in it too.

      HisServant77 Apr 10, 09
Well, THAT, yes I can definitely understand and a little bit agree with. Glad you're getting the game, sorry you're not able to get the bonus too.

Companies though, especially nowadays with the fear of the economy causing people to reconsider some game purchases, will do as much as possible to get their game bought. Pressuring people to preorder, is kinda like getting their foot in the door. People seldom cancel preorders (especially with bonuses that aren't given until the pickup date), and it causes people to get that preorder before giving them time to consider the game purchase. Also, it makes their Day 1 sales look better.

So I agree that I don't like it that much (unless I've already decided to preorder and figure I'd like a little gift haha), but . . . it's to be expected.

Yea, that makes complete sense. As I said previously, it's obviously done to sort of get as close as they can to guaranteeing themselves sales on that first day, and in most other industries, the economy would definitely be playing a role in this. However, the gaming industry has had their flak vests on for quite a while now, and I don't think they're striving for dollars. They're just pinching pennies.

I think part of the reason I don't like this practice is because it isn't unlike the way much DLC is handled these days. A lot of content doesn't justify the price, but people love their games, and the companies know their content will sell. Look at Capcom. Clear case of taking advantage of the consumer. They overcharge for content that is already on the disc, but because games like Street Fighter and Resident Evil are well established and wildly popular, they force us to pay whatever the prices are. How is it that some games can offer full map packs (usually in bundles of 3), which directly extend the gameplay, for $4.99, but Capcom charges $2.99 just for some skins that are already on the disc? That's the consumer abuse I'm talking about.

Yea, yea people are always going to say, "If you don't like it, don't buy it." You can say that about anything, so it is an irrelevant statement. Even if I don't choose to buy content, it doesn't change the way I feel, because it's the mentality of the providers that I'm commenting on. They look at all of us as money bags, not fans or even consumers, and just because I voice my opinion, doesn't mean I have unjustified complaints.

I agree completely there. (Speaking of the DLC issues) That's why I'm always eager to commend the developers who DON'T do that, and are good to their fans. It shows they are more fan-oriented instead of just money-oriented.

To me, it's a form of price gouging, which in other products and such can even be illegal. But . . . it's dangling the bottle of water just out of reach of the desert-trecker, asking them for $20 or more for a normal-sized bottle. I agree, it's the way the developers are with the attitudes and the way they see us. You're right, the DLC is like candy that they know some fans just can't resist . . . so they'll use it. I wouldn't mind either if it were decently priced, but that's not always the case.

    Woudo Apr 10, 09
Hi, you're going to buy this game and this you know. You have two choices, either preorder the game and get it at launch or wait a month when it has dropped $50 in price before buying.

Oh, and you get a trinket if you buy on the release date.

    Choices choices.

I know you're exaggerating, but games rarely drop more than $5 or so, after a month. Especially if they sell well...

Shoot, look at the price of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ~_~

I'm wondering if Woudo was taking a jab at the game by saying it was going to be so terrible that it'll drop $50 in one month...

That....makes a lot of sense XD

But really, Infamous looks like it'll be a decent game. Let's hope it is good, neh?
