Blu-ray Already Winning In Europe?

Apparently in Europe, Blu-Ray has just hit the million mark for Blu-ray discs sold. Could this be a good sign for Sony and the coming end for HD-DVD?

But whats interesting is that according to qj the so called HD format war only exists in the US, as other people on GameGrep have mentioned before in various comments.

Not too long after Blu-ray discs reached the 1 million milestone, Blu-ray.com reports that Sony's high-definition format extended its dominating hand to Europe.

Less than two months have passed since the PS3's release in Europe, and Blu-ray has already taken over HD-DVD in the sales race. 64% (and rising) of the high-def movie sales is owned by Sony, with a ratio of 3-to-1 against Microsoft.

Top executives went as far as saying that there is no format war outside the US: Blu-ray takes the cake hands down. It's not difficult to imagine that European sales will come close to Japanese numbers, where 96% of HD movies sold are Blu-ray.

Awesome. Hopefully we'll see cheaper bluray drives in the future. Need to get rid of all these dvd's. :\

Wow 96% Blu-Ray in Japan, that's awesome.

I guess it makes sense though, if you were to get a 360 and an HD-DVD you're talking a separate drive just for the HD-DVD playing capability and we all know how much the Japanese hate taking up space. The fact that the HD-DVD drive is external for the 360 definitely hinders that in Japan, not to mention they already dislike the console because of the external power brick.

Only ~300,000 360's have been sold in Japan. Of course Blu-Ray will win there. I thought that region was pretty much a given.

Well Blue ray seems to be on top everywhere in a landslide, Other than U.S. there still competing.
