Capcom's vice president of corporate development and strategic planning, Christian Svensson, has rebuked claims that Resident Evil 5's DLC was just a "key" that unlocked the DLC that was already on the disc.

According to Svensson, the DLC "uses assets from the disc (like levels, models, audio, etc.) but the code is new and does not exist on the disc."

Svensson wrote: “Keys are 100 [kilobytes] or less. It is not a key. We have said in the past, it uses assets from the disc (like levels, models, audio, etc.) but the code is new and does not exist on the disc.”

Svensson’s answer would seem to also indirectly address accusations that the PS3 Versus Mode was on the “RE5″ disc for that system, as the download size was reported by gaming blog Kotaku to be over 300 KB.

Note to Capcom: Nobody gives a *bleep* what you have to say at this point, because if you didn't charge for something that SHOULD have shipped with the game to begin with, this whole controversy would not exist. Hell, from your own testament, it uses assets and resources already existing on the disc, so you're charging for a few more lines of code? What about the costumes in Street Fighter IV? It's the practice that has people pissed off, and I truly hope you take it into consideration, considering what has transpired recently.

Too bad that even if a lot of people complain, there are probably more who will throw their money down.

Just look at this DLC, I read lots of posts about people who have bought it.I seem to be the only person that hasn't bought it.

As long as that's the case, Capcom will continue to do this because they know there will be tons of people that will buy their DLC.

This is probably gonna be gone in the wind, give or take a few months. People will shift their attention to Dead Rising 2 or something like that. It's like a love/hate relationship with Capcom, really.

And i bet Dead Rising 2 will have the same costume mechanic where you could buy keys to unlock costumes that were on the game disc.

Well I was going to mention this as a possibility in the other article but seriously . . . that was like a beehive that's been struck with radiation making them monster bees, and someone hit the beehive with a stick.

I understand how ridiculous these things are, but in the eyes of a business they'll do whatever to make money. (Unless they're fan-oriented companies. Then, they're good in my book.)

As for not putting those things on the disc, I don't mind that at all. They leave certain things out so they can release them later, to try to keep the game alive a bit longer. If everything was given at the start of the game's life, then after a few months it'll grow old. BUT, release some DLC a few months later and boom, it's alive again. Then do it again and boom, it lives longer. But . . . if I were a company I'd do that, I just wouldn't charge for those things unless it took a bit of resources to create it.

      Yeah, HisServant, you're absolutely right.

Capcom has every right to do what they did as a business...But...as fans, we have every right to be bitter over it

Well, if that's all it needed to be functional, CAPCOM should've been able to include it in the disk as these modes are probably just slightly altered code of Mercenaries, yet before CAPCOM said that it couldn't be included on the disk earlier because of budget. I HIGHLY doubt their budget couldn't handle an essentially duplicate mode.

I wonder if RE5's DLC has been very successful? Not only because of the mount of people complaining about price or the fact that its already on the disc, but also because, well, the Versus Mode apparently isn't particularly good. Or at least not good enough to constitute spending extra money to buy it.

Add another ten or so characters to Mercenaries, and I'll gladly shell out my cash. At the moment it's not really worth it, imo.

I am personally somewhat revealed. Only slightly. They still had admitted the DLC was made at the same time the game was being made (thus could have been on the disc)

Irrelevant. On the disc or not, making people pay for this is a dick-move to fans. End of.
