OXCGN looks at the Polly Rae inclusion into Battlestations: Pacific artwork on the planes and ships.
Some of the best art of that period appeared on many planes and vessels in the Second World War in Briton and the US.
We all love a good looking woman, well, a huge majority of us do.
And one of the most iconish emblems of the Second World War were the lovely ladies that adorned the fuselages of the many bombers, fighters and almost anything that flew or floated in that period.
Mustangs, Hellcats, Spitfires, Float planes, PT Boats and Trainers.Even the odd torpedo tube or gun emplacement on a Battleship here and there copped a decent painting on its turrets, you name it.
If it was heading to war, the first thing that a new plane would be fitted with wasn’t new guns, but a lovely burlesque sweetheart to help them remember what they were fighting for was lovingly painted on the planes.
