Every one has heard the term Playstation. It was Sony's first console which was released in the 90's and dominated the market for a decade. What many of us don't know is that it's thanks to Nintendo. Got your attenion? well read on to find out why.

In November 1994 the Playstation was released in Australia and was accepted by gamers as a next gen console. Sega followed suit with the Sega Saturn but due to the lack of developer support, the Saturn was short lived. In the meantime Nintendo never ended up releasing their CD Add-on for the SNES and instead went on to release the Nintendo 64 (N64). The N64 was a good console but Nintendo opted for a cartridge based system rather than CD which ended up hurting the company. The cartridge based system forced game developers to abandon Nintendo, a major one being Square Enix (well know for their Final Fantasy Series). Not only was the storage space better on a CD based system but Sony's lower licensing fees attracted developers to jump ship and they did.

i don't see it mentioning that sony wanted a large amount of money just for Nintendo just using the CD aspect of the add-on, and sony left and sold this system.

You're painting Sony to be the bad guy, which isn't true.

Thank you Nintendo for being inadequate, then not coughing up when you got the help you needed.

It seems like this info is revisited every so often for people who don't know their history. Oh well, thanks Ninty. You guys were never really about pushing technology anyway.

I remembered hearing it several times that Nintendo was responsible for PS but never any details. Wasn't sure whether to believe it either, but . . . Glad to finally know what happened.

No wonder Sony seems to always be the underdog. Seems like it was born from that, and so must forever bear the title.

Not talking about it that way. I'm talking more along the lines of people complaining about the PS brand when it starts a generation, then claiming it's horrible and it's going to fail, up to maybe halfway through it's lifespan.

Or am I wrong in saying people complained/criticized/doubted the PS,PS2, and PS3 within their early releases.

I heard no criticisms or prophecies of doom for the PS2, quite the opposite in fact, and the doubts for PS1 faded very fast.

You never heard any complaints or bad things about the PS2 when it first released? . . . Hm, then it must've just been with the people I talked with. I heard the good, but still a lot of bad.
