Some new information is revealed about the next PSP. Some of what you have heard isn't exactly true. This seems to set some of the record straight. Some of the features being promised like Touchscreen will not be available in the next PSP. UMD is definitely gone.

Sony has contended there is no PSP2 and they are telling the cold hard truth. There won’t be a PSP2 coming for at least a couple more years. That doesn’t mean that some new PSP hardware isn’t headed our way soon enough. Think more aesthetic changes, more along the lines of DS > DSLite but more substantial of a change. We here at PlayStation LifeStyle are ready to “debunk” or “confirm” some of the rumors that are floating around the net.

Somebody has to be lying, in this story the insider says it's not the PSP 2 and it has only one analog stick.

In this one the insider says it is the PSP2 and it has Dual analog sticks.
But both of them agree that it has rounded edges, sliding screen, and no UMD drive.

I guess we will have to wait until E3 to see who's telling the truth.

Well not really, considering one is saying the NON-PSP2 will only have one analog stick; whereas the other is saying the PSP2 will have dual analog sticks.

They're not contrary, just talking about two different products. The only thing is . . . which one is coming for what they are talking about.

Really, two stories the same day? Why would Sony be showing the PSP 2 around if it was not coming for at least a couple more years, as playstationlifestyle puts it? Someone is either lying or is confused by what they have seen and are making assumptions.

Well in that case, I'd personally have to go with this article, simply due to the fact that I personally trust the source a good bit more. Not only that, but I am highly doubtful of a PS3 price drop.

I have to agree with On Vacation, allot of those games on that list have very little appeal for me personally.
But Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Final Fantasy Agito, and Assassin's Creed may be interesting when they eventually come out.

But how would you play some of the current games that are only on the UMD if that thing doesn't use UMD discs???

I know the guy who is in charge of that site, and for the most part I do trust their information. It's only wrong about maybe 2% of the time (random, generalized percentage there).

That said . . . 'Tis a shame if they don't go with touch screen. I'm talking touch screen, not with a stylus. But then again, this isn't about the next NEW PSP, but just a different "version." In any case, the next PSP will have to be awesome and have a LOT of awesome features for me to buy it. I already have one, and seldom use it. I never play games on it, but use it Portal-wise and for Remote Play (which seriously. needs. to be. increased!!!)

Well if you're friends with the guy can you ask him for some info that's a little less cryptic?
I sure hope the writer of this article is wrong about this, because the PSP he described sounds very disappointing.

I agree it needs a touch screen, it would be a big mistake not to include the feature it's competition has.

And I will be in shock if there's not a PS3 price drop by the time E3 is over, I'm actually surprised Sony didn't announce a price cut at GDC.

Not really good friends with him though. I've just talked with him several times and helped him out a couple times with some things.

Besides, being a bit cryptic is something he's learned to do actually due to Sony changing some things after his source gives him info (then his source comes along and tells him this has changed . . . but after he already posted the old info.) Made him look unreliable so he's learned to watch what he says because things can definitely change with Sony.

I agree the PSP version he described doesn't seem too hot. Not interesting to me either, but it gives a bit of hope to consider that it's not a whole new PSP but just really a "version" of it like the PSP slim is to the original PSP. This means there's still a good hope that when Sony creates/releases a whole new PSP (PSP2) it may be awesome enough for me to spend money on it

You really can't expect them to reveal everything before it's time to. As far as a PS3 price cut, the same thing goes for Sony. They only would have hurt sales if they announced a price cut before they were actually in position to cut it.

In a way, I'll be glad if this is true. If a PSP2 comes out soon, my PSP will be outdated and I won't be able to play all the new games that are gonna come out. This way, I still will be able to play the new games, whether they come on UMD or not.

    HisServant77 Apr 24, 09
This makes me wonder suddenly. Without UMD . . . what about those who cannot downlaod games? What about those who have no internet connection or no wires to connect? Will stores have download stations that will have you bring your psp or media card or something and download it there for such cases?

But then again . . . are they therefore moving to cartridges? The little discs that nintendo had?
    • 0
      StarJet Apr 26, 09
They might have some such download places, now that I think about it.
But no, they won't move to cartridges. A cartridge won't hold much data as a UMD.
Or maybe they'll have 2 PSP models, the normal one and a cheap one without the UMD drive.

what do they mean by a cartridge?

    i mean umd's are fine
