RatedG4Gamer.com have posted up their thoughts on the new title update for Street Fighter IV. They bring up some interesting points and express their disappointment on the resent update.

Capcom have released their title update for Street Fighter IV, adding championship mode and replay download functionality. Unfortunately this update has been quite disappointing, here’s why.

Back in the day Street Fighter II ruled the arcades with people bunched up around the machine watching and waiting with their dollar coins lined up on the ledge to secure their turn to challenge.

This mode is free...and yet we get complaints. But he does bring up a great point. I'd love a spectator mode, like how things work for DoA4 online, but I think that'll throw in a hella whole lot of lag depending on the the spectator's connection.

Replays are a great addition, imo. I like watching some intense fights.

Because people suck at the game, and I can't understand it. Since it's inception, Street Fighter has been an easy game to pick up and play, but a challenge to master. With Street Fighter IV, it seems like 90% of the people playing it are rookies. All I run into is chumps who spam the same move over and over, and on the net, all I hear about it how hard the game is to play. I don't get it.

It's because of the attention span. Back when SF was in the arcade or old systems, people were intent on not just beating a game but getting good at it and enjoying it. Now many just want to beat a game and then toss it aside. Also . . . Shooters are mainstream now, and therefore skill has become rare. Fighting games seldom take some good skill to beat but so many are button mashers (which is why once a move is learned, it's a HUGE accomplishment and they'll do it over and over again). People seldom play anymore out of enjoyment of the game. Most now play it to beat it for bragging rights then toss it aside afterward. OR to get high on a shooter scoreboard.

I, too, admit that even I play most of the time just to beat it for the story and that's it. Though I enjoy the game, if I play through the story I seldom go back to it unless I have spare time.

Nah man I disagree with that; if you think back to arcade days, there'd be say 50 absolutely CRAP 12 year olds play streetfighter; just trying to beat it, and for all of them, there'd be 1 awesome person who'd mastered a character and got there name (repeatedly) on the score board. The only difference is now, it's on the internet. There was a transistion between arcade to console, where you'd be playing at home on your own against the computer most of the time; so you'd master it out of boredom, but it wouldnt matter if you lose, you just pick it up and play again, till you get fed up with it; doesnt cost anything, why not. Now with online play, its back to "anyone's game"; but from the comfort of your own home. If you had the pleasure of experiencing the olden days of arcades, you'd remember those 50 kids, and the sheer satisfaction of just spending all day long in the arcade beating every single one of em, and making people go get you burgers and cokes. There was a REASON to be awesome at it then; when you're 12-15 that's something to be proud of. Now, no-one gives a shit. They'll play, they'll lose; you'll never even see each, they'll save face, therefore they have no reason to wanna be better. Which is why they'll only play it for a week and give up. Man the arcades were awesome.

I do the exact same things, the game is just too hard to master

Hm, but we don't have to master the game, just get used to it. SFII brought in casual gamers, lots of them...that's what's great about the series in fact. Even if you're not a hardcore fan of the fighting genre, this game is intriguing enough for a large audience.

If all you do is spam the same move, then you are not even attempting to learn the game. It is not THAT hard to master. You are just refusing to lose and learn.

I kinda miss the days I was into this type of game. I know a few people I could get to play this game with me, but I'm just not into it. Sounds like great fun though!
