Spong.com saw an email last week from Jack Thompson commenting on how he will take action against Bill Gates if Halo 3 is supplied to people under the age of 17. Jack was asked a few questions but some he refuses to answer as he thinks they are inappropriate to the situation. Jack was also asked if he's actually played the Halo 3 beta or has a gamer tag.

Yesterday we checked some facts regarding an email sent to Microsoft (into which we were copied) regarding Halo 3. The email was sent by Florida lawyer, John Bruce Thompson. The email contained the statement: "The Beta (of Halo 3) version that was released last week shows us all just how violent the game is and how inappropriate it is for play by anyone under 17."

We asked the following questions by email:

1) When did you play the Halo 3 Beta? I'd like to check for factual purposes.

2) What's your gamertag? Again, a fact check.

As ever, the lawyer responded. As ever, the responses were fact free. Here they are, in order:

"Your query is relevant to absolutely nothing."

In short, we still don't know if the lawyer has played the game that he's basing a campaign on. What's as concerning is that a legal professional can state that evidence is irrelevant.

"So, Tim, let me get this straight: You think Mature-rated games should be sold to people under 17? That's what this is about. You're not quite as clever as you think you are, and your "fact-checking" is pathetic."

SPOnG is actually on record as saying: "SPOnG advocates the correct and reasonable use, and enforcement, of video game rating systems such as the ESRB's or the European PEGI system.

"Certainly if a retailer sells a game clearly marked as 18+ to a six-year-old, then that retailer should be held to account - financially."

So, no - we are all for an understandable, reasonable and enforceable rating system. We are also all for creativity in game design.

"The disturbing material in Grand Theft Auto and other games like it is stealing the innocence of our children and it's making the difficult job of being a parent even harder," said Senator Clinton. "I am announcing these measures today because I believe that the ability of our children to access pornographic and outrageously violent material on video games rated for adults is spiraling out of control."

This quote - sent by the lawyer - was in reference to the his assertion that Hillary Clinton had called the ESRB game rating system, "broken". She has not said this - see the original story for the facts of the matter. "Spiralling out of control" is quite different to "broken".

Jack has a gamer tag? Now that's saying something: Halo 3 is going to be the best Halo game ever invented. That is so kickass.

He didn't actually answer the question about whether or not he had a Gamertag, so we don't know for sure. It wouldn't surprise me if he did, though I doubt there'd be a massive rush to add him to your friends list, except to harass him in game.

Man this news is stupid, I mean not only did he avoid answering the questions, that Hilary Clinton is one annoying bizatch. Its ppl like them, that makes me pissed off. Last time i checked the ESRB game rating system, is great. Its the parents fault, not the game stores. Just like fat ppl, they automatically blames the fast food restaurants for them being fat. But dont admit that its there fault there fat. Cause money cant buy there own food, but ppl can. Take responsibility of your own actions, PPl.

Very good points there Finalblade. Thumbs up for you. Jack Thompson must play every game he wants to file a lawsuit against before he goes around talking trash. The Halo 3 franchise has always been set at a futuristic time and cannot be imitated in this modern generation. No one listens to him and he continues to talk trash about the gaming industry and how kids/teenagers are becoming violent from it. Although the real question is

Does Jack Thompson have a Xbox 360?

Yay finally a thumbs up. I thought for sure someone will down me cause it usually happens. But seriously, why dont ppl actually play the games b4 talking about them. I actually played halo 1 and 2 it was an awesome game. But last time i checked, halo doesnt show blood. And what they could attack are games like mortal kombat, though i like them
But i feel these ppl have no lives. And just hate games in general.

There is the occasional purple Covenant blood, and a small bit when you shoot marines, but its hardly noticeable.

Ok, but the fact remains it hardly even shows up. Not to mention, its purple, what human has purple blood honestly. I mean i know some bugs that have yellowish blood. But that means nothing.

I seriously doubt that Jack Thompson would have his own gamertag, played the Halo 3 beta, or owns a copy of Crackdown. Doesn't ge seem like the kind of person that will accuse games without actually playing them ? After all, did he ever play GTA before going on his rampage against it ?

Seriously, you has to stop blaming the video game companies for producing and selling it to the appropiate age groups, and start focusing on the parents who don't.

Well, I do remember him saying that he played Vice City and San Andreas in court, to make himself seem as if he knew what he was talking about.

        Final Blade May 27, 07
Ok, playing VC or SA in court means you know everything about games, give me a break. I mean, we all know JT doesnt have a gamer tag, at least he didnt answer the questions. And were suppose to believe everything else he said. That seems idiotic to me.

Yeah, it seems more like a way to try to save face than actually covering up that he has a GamerTag. He hasn't played any of the games he's accused so far, why start now?

It's not really the parents fault if kids buy a game without them knowing. The store should ask for ID just like they would if a kid tried to purchase a pack of smokes.

Yeah, because I'm sure he's on a rampage because a bunch of teenagers can beat him in CTF:

Opposing team: Holy shit, dude. You suck.
Thompson: Man, I sue the person responsible for this horrible game.

    GameFreak101 May 27, 07
That would be incredibly hypocritical of him to have a Gamer Tag. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He really needs to set his priorities straight and see what is truly harming society.

      Ameer May 27, 07
Not really. He's debating the possible supply of Halo 3 to under-17s and the last time I checked, he was older than 17. Doesn't stop him being a douche though.

If he has a gamertag, I'm sending him a FR if I ever find out what it is.

It would be fun as hell to annoy the piss out of him while he's 'working'.

I doubt very seriously that jack plays the games, even once that he so called "prosecutes".

who cares about these ratings? im 16 and i have played all gta games from 3 to vcs. i have played gta since i was 12. (i live in sri lanka. here a 6 yr old could just go and buy an AO rated game. the dumbasses at stores have no clue about ratings.)

Who cares about Jack Thompson -_- But I'm with sort here. If we find out his GT, I'll let everyone know and FR him as well.

If Jack Thompson really did have a gamertag, the main reason I would send him a friend request would be so I can actually try to reason with him in person, rather than just flaming him like people do on the Internet.

      Final Blade May 28, 07
But why reason with someone who cant be helped. Jack Thompson is a lost cause. If he stop talking crap and play games, maybe he would understand something. His ignorance is beyond human help at this point in time. And i would ream him a new rear end if i had a gamers tag and i requested him. And than maybe he would actually learn something, but again it brings me back that he's a lost cause.
