Books based on video games aren't new, so it's no wonder Bethesda is adding their Elder Scrolls franchise to that growing list. Make some extra money, please the fans, everybody's happy.

Some of you may be familiar with the writer Bethesda hired, too. Greg Keyes, that New York Times best-selling author responsible for several Star Wars novels of the New Jedi Order series, will be penning the two Elder Scrolls novels.

Bethesda has joined with Del Rey Books, a branch of Ballantine Books and also responsible for the Star Wars novels, to publish two novels based on the award-winning game series we know and love as The Elder Scrolls. The books will be written by New York Times best-selling author Greg Keyes, who also penned three Star Wars novels in the Jedi Order series.

The first novel, titled The Infernal City, will be published in Fall 2009 and takes place after the events of Oblivion. A shadow floats above the land of Tamriel, and wherever it descends, people die to be brought back as undead. Not surprisingly, a young boy-girl duo are brought together by unlikely events and must rescue Tamriel from -- you guessed it -- certain DOOM.

        That's not literature. That's a given.

The New Jedi Order series was just awful, and shouldn't be attached to the Star Wars name.
But I've only read one of Greg Keyes Star Wars books so maybe his other stuff is much better.

I've heard some of the SW novels are pretty good, not sure if they were Keyes' work though. To be honest, when I read that the first Elder Scrolls book would feature an "unlikely duo" consisting of a 17-year-old girl and a prince (Emperor's son), I just kind of shook my head and got a baaaaaaaad feeling.

Most of the Star Wars books before the New Jedi Order series are good, especially the books by Timothy Zahn and Kevin J Anderson. And I haven't touched any of the books that are after that series, so some of the new books may also be good.

I don't want the books, mainly because the speech and stuff in ES was boring.

I just skipped all the text and got my lycanthropy Werewolves don't talk nubs

I didn't even know there were Elder Scrolls novels being made. I may pick one up.

All I can say is, epic win.

With TES: V coming out next year, these novels should hold us till them.
