At Captivate '09, Capcom announced that they are hoping to achieve "a near-360 level of graphics" and "graphics that are the best you will see on the Wii" with their upcoming game Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles. They also revealed the new trailer... So do you think they've achieved their goal?

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is a game developed to one up Wii million-seller The Umbrella Chronicles with better design, better atmosphere, and the best graphics ever seen on the Wii.

"One of the things we thought we needed to achieve was a near-360 level of graphics," said Cavia's Kentaro Noguchi. "By adding in technology like HDR, global illumination, shadow/lighting and some filters, we feel that we were able to achieve some graphics that are the best you will see on the Wii."

The keyword in there is near.

And by near, they mean not really.

And by not really, you mean they're gonna suck ass. And I agree witht that.

I highly doubt they'll pull that off, if they do I'll be pretty damn impressed.
Still, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it'll at least look decent.

I don't see why I should care. I play games, not look at them.

That must be difficult to accomplish.

I won't give 'em any merit until I actually get a chance to play the game, but even still it's a *bleep*ing on rails shooter.

bbb is a god among men, he can play his games without looking at them. Heck he can probably play games without even tocuhing a controller. That's how he rolls.

And in all fairness to it, the camera is far better than in any other on-rails game from what little we've seen of it already.

Actually, the concept of "playing" a game includes all aspects needed to play said game, including seeing and reacting to onscreen stimuli. The verb "play" includes seeing the game, while the verb "watch" does not assume any interaction on my part. Therefore, it is quite easy to accomplish. I do it all the time, and I'm sure plenty of you do as well.

I suppose my attempt at quick wit was simply to express my frustration at the continuous graphical comparisons that have become so popular with Wii games over the last several months, ever since The Conduit came to light. Every developer is quick to say how close to 360 level they have their graphics, once again forgetting that the Wii is a different system designed around different concepts.
Nintendo did not build Wii to be weaker than other systems because of some lack of hardware skill, it was a conscious decision and statement that the next generation of video games lay not with continuously increasing graphics but with increasing the control the player has over their game. It is ridiculous for developers to continue to develop games for Wii as if it was just a weak 360. What they should be focused on is delivering the best experience they can as a Wii game.

Basically, I find the comparison itself to be stupid, no matter what the statement is actually trying to compare.

I can see the backlash from 360 fanboys already.

Can't happen. Form a technical standpoint, the Wii CANNOT support the same level of graphics as the 360. it just isn't possible.

State why it says 'near'. You can stretch 'near' quite a bit if you want to which I imagine is what they're aiming to do.
