The Halo effect is now taking hold and Sony is taking some steps to try and counter the juggernaut known as Halo 3.
Sony are currently preparing for the Halo 3 release this September. They are planning what games should be released to allow people to neglect Halo 3 and purchase a PS3 game or maybe purchase the PS3 itself. The company showcased over 30 upcoming PS3 titles. Titles like Ratchet & Clank Future, Heavenly Sword, Lair, SOCOM Confrontation, and Pain.
But since most of these games won't be released before or in September I don't see how Sony are actually preparing for the Halo 3 release.
If there is one game that Xbox 360 gamers are waiting for since the launch of the console, it’s Halo 3. Microsoft has confirmed that the game would be launched this coming September 25.
Microsoft vice president Peter Moore spoke about Halo 3 at the announcement party: “‘Halo 3′ is much more than a video-game release; it’s the biggest entertainment event of the year.”
He added: “We intend to deliver a finale that will go down in entertainment history.”
The company has also given the gamers a taste of what is coming up by starting a multiplayer beta test of the game on Xbox Live. This beta testing is limited to few gamers though some of whom got the invite by purchasing a copy of “Crackdown”.
The beta testing would continue till June 10 this year.
Sony has now said that they are going to challenge this upcoming gaming title which can potentially change the market scenario for both the company by launching some Playstation 3 exclusives.
The company also showed more than 30 upcoming gaming titles for their PS3 console which is struggling against both Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360.
Some of these titles were “Ratchet & Clank Future,” “Heavenly Sword” and “Lair” along with the war game “SOCOM Confrontation” and the bizarre “Pain”.

They need to pull out very big guns if they EVER want to overshadow Halo 3. The only ones so far that can be on an even level with Halo 3 in terms of popularity are GTA and Final Fantasy. But those aren't finished by then.
The only thing Sony can honestly do to counter it is to bring forth a smashing hit. One most likely never announced yet, maybe even bring forth the first of a series (like God of War was in 2005) and promote it like hell.
I don't think they have that in them. A good Mario could easily pull it off, seeing as it's a very well-known flagship title of Nintendo, but Sony just doesn't have so many well-known titles. All they had was a large array of good titles, but more unknown to the public.
Yeah, because Halo totally destroyed the PS2....Oh...wait, it actually didn't.
Gears of War released right around the PS3's release...couldn't have come out in a more perfect time, got everyone riled up by comparing Resistance to Gears, it worked wonders for Epic and Microsoft.
Sony's gonna have to add some counter-weight to Halo's hype is all, obvious business tactics.
However im not saying it sucks, its a good game i played both and liked it however, that doesnt mean it will run up the charts and beat sony. However halo 3 will probably destroy nintendo, since this game and most of the big titles for sony, gives problems to them. As we seen in the past. Though like Seeker X said halo 1 and two didnt even destroy sony, why start assuming this will.
Yes, this would make a slight increase in 360 sales, but not so much that Sony would have to fret about it. However, judging by that giant list of PS3 games to be released in September, they're getting rather desperate. =P
Anyway on topic. Hlo 3 is totally going to rock, I'm sure of it
