Sony Europe president Reeves has said that he believes that in 3-5 years, Sony's PS3 will become the top gaming console out there. The president will be retiring after 15 years of service, and plans to take a some time off you rest from what he says has been a tough year.

"I don't think it will be next year, but in three to five years it will become dominant on the market," said Reeves, talking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz.

"The legacy will be that people will see a tortoise and hare situation. In a way, in the end it will be a dead heat. People will say PS3 took a while to get going but it really caught up very quickly and confounded many of the critics from the first year," he said of the consoles position on the market.

"When I see the line-up ahead, when I see what's lined up on the new product side, I'm very, very optimistic for what I see for PlayStation's future in the PAL territories," he added.

Funny, I've been thinking about buying one in 3-5 years.

Pretty sure he's a *bleep*. I want one, though. Just wish it wasn't a quarter of a billion dollars.

If you want one, buy one. People bought 360s when they were $499, why they won't buy PS3 at $399 is beyond me.

3-5 years from now the PS4 will be out and no one will care about the PS3. So hopefully, if ever, it'll become dominant before then.

Cause after spending $499 on a 360, they don't want to blow $399 more?
Dont see yer logic..I wouldnt spend that much on any console.

Yeah, but my name isn't People. I'm not made out of fifty dollar bills where I can just go and get one. I bought a Wii because it was $350 less than the PS3 and has some of my favorite games on it. I'm interested in buying a PS3 because it has so many crazy cool games on it. I'm still not paying four hundred bucks on something that will have a successor by 2014. It's this kind of thing you need to buy right away, because then it'll last. Maybe when it's down to $200 I'll buy it. But that won't be for a long time, so I can wait.

And the 360 came out in 2005, and that was before America's Economy got butt-*bleep*ed by every error our government made and when it was easier to get a job. I have a job but my wage was lowered because our budget is so limited.

3-5 years? Seriously? That'll be 2012-2014...didn't someone tell him that we should be in the next generation of game machines by then?

@chautemoc: I guess if they already have a 360 it wouldn't matter. But point is, the 360 costs just as much with the wireless adapter addon, but you never hear a peep about those prices.

I think the standard price now for the 360 is reasonable, especially that little bit you pay for LIVE and all you get with that.
I have read the add-on is overpriced though..
Dont know much about it myself, but yeah $300 (CAD) would be my max limit on a console I think.

I should say if you want Blu-ray, the PS3 is fairly priced overall. I just dont want Blu-ray, so its quite overpriced to me.

Pretty fair I'd say. The wireless adapter addon is about $100 last I checked though; bit crazy considering it should be integrated to begin with (which it is on PS3, probably one of the reasons it costs about $100 more). Good thing you can go wired.

Yeah, it will be the dominant console sooner or later, but there's no way in hell it's happening in this down economy.

If it weren't for the economy I could see this happening in 3-5 years, but as it stands no, the PS3 is too expensive for most people as it stands, and developing games for it is becoming too expensive as well.
But even so what good would it do? OH YAY THE PS3 IS FINALLY THE DOMINANT CON- oh look Nintendo and Microsoft have new consoles... ah shit, maybe next time.

"High-end" hardware are never the most popular.
Everything has a price(computer, car, house), but for videogames , the "right" price is around 250$.

"PlayStation 3, you will see, will be far and away the winner when you look at it by March '08. They really, really will. It's something that is going to be a slow burner, and suddenly it's like a tsunami; it will just overtake you." - Reeves, July 2007.

yeah right; whatever you say, buddy.

Well, it's not as if anyone expected him to say anything negative about the console.
