I'm hoping most folks remember the DS article recently posted on Gamegrep, about the boy who got the DS and opened the packaging to find it stuffed with rocks and a chinese newspaper, instead of the game he wanted.

Now goes round two. While the paving stone really is very nice, I don't think it was worth the 2000 dollar price tag. Also, he hasn't been able to get compensation for his loss yet. Poor guy.

When I got home I opened the box and found a paving stone packed with bubble wrap, instead of the Macbook Pro.

I returned to the store and the manager, "Keith", was not too willing to help me out. He kept falling back on the line "Apple seals the boxes, not us. Take it up with Apple."

I have sent an email to Best Buy corporate and have contacted my credit card company. Unfortunately, they can't do anything until the charge posts.

So right now, I paid $2164.89 for a very nice red brick.

Lol its all these construction workers who are being put out of a job because of the recession.

So there taking it upon themselves to infiltrate these companies and replace electronic items with building materials and literature from around the world. Then they take these electronics and sell them on to make a quick buck to provide their family with food and water for the day.

    So sad.

This happened to a Hollywood Video I went to once. Factory/Shipping workers who are just asses apparently just gut these things and take the shit for themselves.

I think the more we hear things like this -- and it does seem like we're running into a lot of these cases lately -- the more people are curious to try this prank (theft?) themselves.

Isn't the retailer legally responsible for this sort of thing, regardless of the manufacturer's hand in the fault?

They're definitely responsible. If your product isn't as described, it's your legal right to get a refund (regardless of individual store policies). So yeah, the retailer is obligated to give his money back, or at least offer a replacement.

The people who do this to people are extreme jerks. I would hate to send two grand on a laptop and get a brick instead.

    Poor guy. =(

I don't think the brick is from Apple, maybe someone stole the Mac from the store and replaced it with a brick?

Yeh that is most likely what happend man; someone working in the store probably stole it, (perks of the job) and then realised that an empty box is a bit of a give away. So they had the bright idea of putting a stone in there to weigh it down.

First a DS with rocks, and now a MacBook with a red brick. The people who sealed these boxes are probably sitting back and laughing their asses off.
