A Rant On Bosses: Final Fantasy & Shank

Hollywood's at it again! In the recent trend of games to movies, 20th Century Fox is following suit with the acquisition of the movie rights to The Sims. My best bet is that it's going to be a thriller. "Just when they thought it was safe to go back in the water, the ladder disappears again!" Oh, the horror!
Word today out of Hollywood uber-rag Variety is that The Sims, the top-selling PC game of all time, will soon grace the silver screen at a theater near you. 20th Century Fox acquired the motion picture rights to Electronic Arts' world-dominating franchise with the intention of translating the property into a live-action film.
"The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," said Rod Humble, head of Sims Studio. "Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."
No word yet on plot or starring players, though the film will be produced by John Davis (Norbit, Daddy Day Care) and scripted by Brian Lynch (Big Helium Dog). Assuming this is such an "old story," why not skip the license altogether and create an original work? Oh, right -- brand loyalty; the kind that comes with an 85 million-selling juggernaut. Cha-ching.
