After 13 years of business, 3D Realms succumbs to financial woes, like many other developers these days. 3D realms has been known for their work like Duke Nukem 3D, Max Payne 1 and 2 and Prey. This means Duke Nukem Forever will be going to the grave.

3D Realms, the developers of the famous Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem Forever has shut down due to financial woes. This also automatically results in all of its employees being sent home.

Anyone find it highly ironic that Duke Nukem: Forevers initials are DNF?

    Did Not Finish?

Well when it takes you 10+ years to release a game, I think you deserve to get shut down.

No, this does not mean Duke Nukem Forever will be going to the grave. Update announcement, Take Two has announced they still have the rights to Duke Nukem Forever, meaning they can give the game to another developer if they want and the game may actually get FINISHED if another developer gets it. -_-

Question is, doesn't anyone even WANT this game anymore?

I'm still wondering why people are even remotely interested in the first place. There's next to NOTHING on the game except for the fact that it's got "Duke Nukem" on the title. And even then, the Duke Nukem games were never actually groundbreaking to warrant this much faith.

Hm, well it brought a rather...refreshingly smug style to the action genre. Duke Nukem was quite popular back in the day, at least to me he was, up there with Lara Croft (kinda). The games were fun as well, can't begin to explain how crazy the 1v1 battles I had with some friends were, especially with the RPG-spamming.

But yeah, it's not that big a game franchise. Too bad they shut down, though, I was looking forward to another Duke Nukem game...wonder if another company may pick it up.

EA will likely absorb them, or Ubisoft. I hope.

Duke Nukem will more than likely BUST out of the corpse of 3D Realms studios, slaughter a large % of the human race, then sit and chew gum while waiting for Chuck Norris to arrive for the ULIMATE SHOWDOWN!

    Any money that WILL happen.

Well it wasn't as if we expected there to be any other outcome. You simply can't prolong the development of a game that long. The world isn't that kind.

How was this story posted 23 mins ago, yet it has comments from 40 hours ago?
Is it a glitch, or is it a break in the space time continuum?

Well at least now Duke Nukem Forever will stick to its name.

    And not be released.....Forever.

Or until some ex-employee puts some unfinished code on the Net

Doesn't need any ex-employees to do that. Take-Two still owns the rights to the game, they can give it to another developer to finish it if they want to.

I know, but I wouldn't be surprised if what I said happen. And the new developer might have to start from scratch anyway.

That's what the problem has been all along though, hasn't it? 3D Realms kept going over and over the game, starting over from scratch on numerous occasions.

I suspect that if they do hand this over to another developer, it will be on a brand new engine. Perhaps they'll use the story from 3D Realms, but I doubt they'll use the same game engine.
