Nintendo announces its Wi-Fi Connection for the DS console has reached two new milestones recently. Since its launch back in November 2005, the userbase for Nintendo's wireless gaming service has grown to over 5 million unique owners. Additionally, these users have logged over 200 million gameplay sessions. According to Nintendo's press release, the top five DS games supporting the Wi-Fi Connection worldwide are Animal Crossing: Wild World, Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, and the recently launched Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl.

"Nintendo DS gamers globally use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection as an easy, fun place to find fellow players, all without paying anything extra for the service," explains Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "The milestones represent millions of hours of fun and camaraderie despite miles between players."

Yeah, The Nintendo DS WiFi mode has definitely grown, you just have to look at the Pokemon Diamond WiFi forum to prove that. It's beating loungin' at the moment

Well said there, will. WiFi is extremely popular, so I think we can safely say the idea was a good move by Nintendo and I hope to see it continue to have a popularity boom in years to come.

Diamond and Pearl are already in the top 5? Damn. I knew people wanted to battle others online but I never thought it would be so much.

You were surpised with Mario Kart? I wasn't. First online DS game and so many people love it. I remember how when it was almost out people were so anxious to play it!

Mario Kart was a great game. I used to always play it in the middle of the night, but I never actually got to Wifi at all. There is a ton of good players out there, so I'm disappointed.

This finally may give Nintendo a hint that online play is definitely something gamers want. All they have to do now is get rid of those silly friend codes and those numbers will sky rocket even more than five million. =D
