After releasing some of the worst and least impressive titles the Wii has, Ubisoft finally admits that the software they have released is mostly low quality and they promise improvements. After an unimpressive Red Steel release(although it sold well regardless) and a number of poor ports of old titles such as the unsuccessful GT Pro Series and Monster Truck 4x4, Ubisoft received the most criticism from the terrible port of the critically acclaimed PC/XBox title Far Cry with Far Cry Vengance.

With their only critically accepted title being Rayman Raving Rabbids, they promise that their upcoming titles will not be rushed or of such poor quality. With the Red Steel sequel, titled Fighting Steel, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 and Brothers in Arms: Double Time coming up, among others, they seem to have a promising line-up that hopefully won't be nearly as rushed this time around.

Publisher Ubisoft was one of the first third parties to recognize the potential of Nintendo's Wii console and back the platform with a wealth of titles. The company's headlining launch games, Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids, were both exclusively created for Wii and have in the six months since they released each become million-sellers around the world. However, many of the developer's other efforts - all of them quick and unimpressive ports of previously released games on other systems - have faired poorly both from a critical and retail perspective. In an interview with leading German news magazine Spiegel, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot and European head Alain Corre admitted that the publisher was too quick to rush these titles to the market.

"We made mistakes," they told the magazine. According to Spiegel, Ubisoft wanted to be first to capitalize on Wii and in its haste to release product it sacrificed the quality of the titles. Ubisoft has reportedly learned from its mistakes, though, and is promising that the quality of its forthcoming Wii projects will be significantly better.

Finally, a developer that is willing to accept the fact that they have made mistakes. I give them kudos for that.

It's somewhat reassuring to see Ubisoft actually apologizing for it and promising improvements, although their reputation has been stained. Ubisoft was known for quality, but recently I found it extremely hard to trust anything they do. I thought Rayman Raving Rabbids, the only Ubisoft Montreal project, was good. However, other than that it was all terrible. I lost a lot of respect for Ubisoft in general and I am being very cautious with hyping up Fighting Steel, Brothers in Arms: Double Time and even Rayman Raving Rabbids 2. Even if they all have potential, we have already seen that from Ubisoft titles and it was always wasted.

They still haven't apologized for Rayman.

I never though that a developer would accept something like this.

This is VERY mature of a developer, to step up and say, "Sorry, we screwed up".

    Kudos to Ubisoft!

To be honest, I never really thought that Nintendo games were pretty good, I've always went for the likes of Sony or Microsoft, much better detailed game there.

To each their own, there's no doubting that there is clearly a market out there for Nintendo games.

I myself have never owned a Nintendo product, mainly because the games didn't appeal to me as much as those on the other platforms.

Nice nice and mature of them to admit to their mistakes, I am fairly disappointed with their current games for the Wii that they have made. Though I quite liked Red Steel, and thought Rayman was great fun, there is definitely room for improvement. Let's hope the upcoming games are a hit.

    About time.

Red Steel is the only game I've ever traded in.

Eh, it was a new concept console and they tried to cash in on it. Can't blame them for trying to beat the rush, really.

I can forgive them for rushing their titles to make release, and I applaud them for putting so much effort into Wii's early life, but I have lost a great deal of faith in Ubisoft. I got through about level 1 of Red Steel, and just put it down, and have very little interest in the sequel.

Nice to hear this. I was ready to give up on Ubisoft all together.

Hopefully they will redeem themselves with a fully online Red Steel 2, and an even crazier and wackier Rayman Raving Rabbids 2.

It's nice to see a company own up to their mistakes and actually tell us they look to improve.

I think that this, to an extent shows a part of what some developers believe they can do with the Wii, in that Ubisoft is showing remorse that they failed to take full advantage of the potential they saw.

But regardless admitting to this, though damage control, was a very impressive act by Ubisoft.
