Well, as we all know Sony have had old PSOne and PS2 games upscaled to HD. But what difference did this actually make? Many PS3 owners have been complaining about the quality of this upscaling, and I for one see exactly why. Can you see any difference in these upascales? Not exactly news as such, but definitely an interesting article nevertheless.

Below are two examples. Number 1 shows absolutely no difference. Number 2 is PSOne hit Resident Evil 2, which also shows absolutely no difference between now and then.

When the PlayStation 3 was announced, one of the major selling points was that it would upscale DVDs as well as original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles to HD quality. However, PS3 owners quickly cried foul after the launch of the system last November when they discovered that their new console didn't perform as expected. Well, it's taken a while, but Wednesday's firmware update to Version 1.80 has finally enabled the promised upscaling to 1080p for any media inserted into the PS3.

I don't get it... All of the games look a bit better upscaled. I don't see much difference.

Yeah, when I saw this article I wondered why they'd used the same image twice for every game, and then I realised that it was supposed to be upscaled. Sony let us down here.

I see very little difference, I thought that it would be more noticeable to be honest.

No, you're not. I notice big differences in my games. Maybe some people aren't actually turning the feature on from the menu?

MGS3 got a lot more smooth with the update, that's all I know.

Hmm... Perhaps I'm just missing something then, but I don't own a PS3 so I wouldn't know just how accurate this is.

I really can't spot anything different, may someone help me spot them.

Screen shot resolution is also limited by the internet. Differences would be more obvious in real life anyway.

It's pretty difficult to see the difference when you're comparing two images of the same size when in reality when not upscaled you have a resolution of 720x480 and when upscaled you're running 1920x1080. Quite a difference and none of these sites have 1920x1080 caps.

I notice a difference for sure, especially with smoothing enable.

One things for sure, while you might not notice that much of a difference in certain games, it definitely isn't any worse.

I didn't see any differences from looking at the pictures however you would probably notice a difference if you were actually playing the game like volacide said.
