According to new Treyarch employee David Kim, the seventh game in the Call of Duty series is already in progress. His LinkedIn profile previously stated the following, but has since been modified (presumably once the news made the rounds):

I am currently on my second title as a senior animator in the games industry with Activision / Treyarch on Call Of Duty 7. Previous to that I specialized as a previsualization artist for various productions.

CoD 7? Is there even a 6th game in the works? I only know about MW2...

      MW2 must be the 6th.

But they said it wasn't, right? That it was going to become its own series.

Well that's the only explanation. Maybe no-one this guy talking 'bout CoD7. Maybe they changed their mind on making it a separate series. They're not working on three games though and aren't skipping six, so what other explanation is there?

It's just a name. I don't know why this confuses so many people. COD7 in the works, means the 7th Call of Duty is being worked on. World at War was COD5. Modern Warfare 2 is obviously a Call of Duty game, and comes after World at War.

But MW2 isn't part of the CoD franchise anymore and should not be labeled as such in numbered sequals~

MW2 dropped the Call of Duty moniker, it's still COD it's just not in the title anymore. It's the 6th and whatever abuse Treyarch can fathom for the engine Infinity Ward comes out with will be 7.

iLL, it's fairly easy to understand why it's confusing. If it's the 7th game call it the 7th game; if it's CoD7, call it CoD7. I'm not familiar with the mind*bleep* style they use with naming games, so when they tiptoe around things and change it it's gonna be a tad confusing.

no Modern Warfare has become its own series and is no longer part of COD. so thats not COD6. this has got to be either wrong or, they are doing both COD 6 and 7 at the same time.

as you can see ppl are already getting confused by this, so if they dropped "Call of Duty" from the MW title, yet it was STILL part of COD, that would create so much confusion and piss everyone off.

Technically, there hasn't been a CoD5 yet as the last one was World at War, not 5.

The Call of Duty franchise is so damned chronology confusing.

No doubt that the one in progress wouldn't be CoD7, considering as how Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 isn't, technically, a Call of Duty game anymore. So this one would be CoD6, only if you consider World at War to be CoD5.

You think this is bad, try putting the Zelda games in chronological order!

      My money's on MW2.

Yeah, Modern Warfare 2 is not a CoD game anymore, it is it's own game now. Although, it will definitely be similar to the games Treyarch makes in terms of the engine, it is otherwise it's own game now.

They're flying through way too fast. I can expect a COD10 by the end of the year.

World at War isn't Call of Duty 5, It's a sequel to Call of Duty 3

Because it didn't jump forward 80 years and is part of the same war?

How does that not make it the 5th CoD in the main series? Did the game go back in time?

          Seproth May 14, 09
No, no, no...you misunderstand. You're right it's still the sixth.

I'm just explaining why it's a sequel to three. It makes sense in a GTA sort of way, since Modern Warfare dropped the whole numerical thing.

Yeah it may be a sequal to the story of CoD3 But that doesn't mean its not CoD5, that was what i was getting at.

That would be kind of awesome, if you got to play both sides. It's no fun being an American all the time.

We're going to have one of these games every year aren't we? It's worse than Mario.

thats not whats gonna happen. Treyarch will be the main dev for the COD series and Infinity will be the dev for the MW series. Infinity will no longer do any COD games. they are now 2 separate franchises.

I think they should focus on the current one and offer a good amount of downloadable content rather then just keep pumping the games out so they can continue to make $$$$

Some people prefer Modern Warfare over the constant remakes of WW2 from Treyarch, while some players like their games more than Modern Warfare.

Besides, I think there will be more than one map pack from IW this time around.

Haha, I just barely heard of the fifth Call of Duty. They should at least release the sixth before moving onto another one. >__>
