PS3 owners will be glad to see there is a firmware update available for them when they fire up their consoles next time. The 2.76 Firmware has been released earlier this evening.

So it's already out? That was rather fast from the time they mentioned its "coming soon" to the time it released.

Meh, very minor. They should have included this feature in the last update, or the next major update.

Then people would have complained about this game or that game having issues and having to wait even longer for them to be fixed in a major update.

If it was completed with the last update, then it would have been in the last update. If it is done now, why would they have waited until the next update? I seriously, seriously have a hard time understanding the disappointment with firmware updates. Yes, it is minor. Does that mean that they shouldn't even bother? That would be some truly ignorant management. Firmwares do nothing but improve a device. A lot of people have this notion that if something mind blowing is not in an update, then Sony is not actively working on it at all, as if they can snap their fingers and make every single user happy the moment they demand a new feature. I just don't get it.

Updates scare me because there is always someone's PS3 that breaks from them, and I don't want it to be mine! LOL

Haha, Well the breaking reports are often exaggerated. But . . . I am worried too with each update. Which is why I do what I do . . . . PRAY! Before each update!

Tell me when they'll let me download PS2 emulation software and then I might care.

Why? Don't they have PS3 models that can play PS2 games still in stores?

I don't know about the rest of the world, but there hasn't been any backwards compatible PS3s for sale in the U.S. for a long time now, I think since the switch last August to the 80 GB with 2 USB, no chrome or memory card reader. Unless you get a used one that is.

Well I'm in the US, the way I see it all was this: 20 and 60 gig at launch. Then no 20. Then no 60, but they had the 40 and 80 gig. The 40 had no BC but the 80 had software BC. Then no 40 gigs but they added a different no-BC version of the 80 gig.

But I thought they still had the software BC 80 gig as well as the no BC 80 gig. Did they do away altogether with the software BC version of the 80 gig?

Yeppers. There is no BC in the newer models as of mid last year.

Well shucks, that's not right. But I guess that's about right. Sony did mention a good while back that they were going to start looking foward and focusing on the future instead, when they talked about BC and everything. There's probably going to be a pretty good chance that the PS4 won't have any BC from the start. Unless they change their minds by then.
