According to Fortune Magazine, who have taken apart and explained the different internal parts of the Wii Remote in an interactive flash demonstration, the Wii Remote contains an audio translater that converts "analog data such as human speech" into other forms of data, possibly such as text. This makes options such as voice recognition and commands, as well as a text-based voice chat, possible. This hasn't been announced officially, or even hinted at, by Nintendo. However, if they had paid to add this into a controller, it is likely that they have something planned for this.

Audio Translator
Manufactured and designed in the Philippines
and Japan by Rohm

FUNCTION:
Converts analog data such as human speech into a
digital data stream. This feature is unused now but will
probably be employed in future games.

It would be cool to use as a microphone to record things into memos. Would be a nice change to record my freestyles on something other than my phone.

Wow, this sounds interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with this, really.
