The racy "rape simulator" Rapelay has caused a lot of controversy in the media lately. After complaints against the game, Amazon.com yanked it from their site, and New York-based Equality Now have kicked off a campaign this week "against rape simulator games and the normalisation of sexual violence in Japan".

The Japanese media has now gotten hold of the news and are equally offended by the game's content, with many media outlets taking a deeper look at the other controversial content seen in their country's erotic games. Will Japanese erotic games face regulations?

As many probably already know, Rapelay was making a lot of commotion with the western world, and Illusion had shrugged it off. But now Yomiuri has picked up on the news and NHK and FujiTV have been featuring the case on TV, and suddenly the entire eroge industry seems at risk now.

Illusion has now removed Rapelay from their website, probably in response to the attention from Japanese media, and Sofmap has reportedly told buyers that Rapelay is now out of production.

I could only hope that there be some sort of regulations . . .

Dude, they could use a little intervention. Erotic games? Fine, fine, sometimes fun (and hilarious); but yes, it DOES need some regulation.

It took them this long to get a hold of it? LMFAO Japanese press fails.
