In a meeting with Japanese press, Square Enix was asked specifically if Final Fantasy XIII will be released within this fiscal year. The reply given wasn't so promising. Having to wait until next year is bad enough, don't delay it any further. :(

In a meeting with Japanese press to discuss their financial forecast, Square Enix Holdings were quizzed about both Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy XIII. Both are obviously huge titles from an investors standpoint, and the answers given weren't exactly endearing.

When asked specifically about whether Final Fantasy XIII will be released within this fiscal year, the following reply was given:

"God knows. ... Is the truth (laughs). I'll try!"

So, although the Final Fantasy XIII demo issued Winter 2009 as the prospective Japanese release date, it looks like it might not even appear until after April 2010. Definitely not good news for Western gamers.

That frowny face shouldn't be there. They can take as long as they want to make it because more time spent developing means a better game in the end. With the advent of the seventh generation, the gaming industry has progressed far enough that there are so many franchises and new releases of high-quality games all the time so that there are plenty of amazing games to keep me busy until this releases.

Sadly that isn't true. More time =/= better games, at least when we're talking about timeframes of this magnitude.

The game is huge though -- I think it's plausible.

Though for us, if the Japanese get this game in 2010 we probably won't get it until 2011 as they take an annoyingly long time to localise games. I'm putting bets on February 2012 when US and EU gamers finally get their hands on this. It'll probably get delayed a few more times.

You know nothing of the actual scale of the game. The fact of the matter is that they're spending far too much time on it for how good it will probably be.

Squeenix seriously need to stop revealing their games so early in development. It only leads to disappointment.

More money in the end though, is the theory.

What's the point in them revealing it or not? We obviously know anyways that they're making it, so I'd rather be clued into what it is as it progresses. The key to avoiding disappointment is to just take everything with a pinch of salt until you get a solid demo or gameplay video - which we already have in this case. So it's all good.

As long as the extra time is used to make the game as great as possible,I'm fine with waiting. At least there are other good RPGs out there to make the wait less agonizing.
