Though Heavy Rain initially was planned to be a sequel to Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in North America), designer David Cage quickly realized he had "nothing more to say on this story and these characters" and went on a different path.

As such, we can expect Fahrenheit will always be an experience unto itself. Check out the full interview for more -- Cage is always a good read.

DC: After Indigo, I wanted to work on something different because I thought the game would be a commercial disaster. It was really different from what the industry was doing and there was absolutely no hype about emotion or narrative. But when we started talking to publishers, many of them told us they loved Indigo and they were interested in publishing the sequel.

So I started thinking of Indigo 2 but I quickly realized I had nothing more to say on this story and these characters. I really enjoyed the time I spent with them, but they were attached to a moment in my life, and I had moved on. I wanted to write something more personal, deeper, more adult, with no world to save and no supernatural powers.

I think it doesn't need a sequel. This game had one of the finest in game storytelling Ive ever experienced, and the ending almost ruined it, so it's good that they left it there and moved on with heavy rain. No game Ive played since has gripped me even half as much as Fahrenheit did.

Ah, how I loved that game.

Indigo Prophecy was pretty awesome, but I believe the story takes a turn for the worse when it goes from a mystery/ thriller to The Matrix with magic and weird ass conspiracies. I'm hoping Heavy Rain sticks with the mystery/ suspence theme.
