A PSP Phone? Yup, you heard it. Seems like the PSP is pulling out all the stops from videos, to pictures, to games, internet and now a phone. But really, who would get a phone for the PSP? Most people have their own. Well, we'll find out when this nifty feature is released, if so at all.

While nothing's set in stone just yet, Sonic Ericsson could be on to something - namely, a PSP phone. A Phone PSP, gleaned from the recent patent you see thumbnailed to the right of this article. This could be the confirmation we've all been waiting for after rumors of it circulated the intarwebs a couple of months ago.

We're really not sure what to call it as the patent doesn't even give the actual gadget a name, but any way you slice it it's something that can probably take the cellphone gaming world by storm. Perhaps even turn the tables on Nintendo's iron grip on the handheld market.

If there's one thing you could cite that had always been holding cellphone gaming back, it's the controls. A numerical keypad simply cannot substitute reliably as a keypad, and would only result in cramped fingers and wrists.

However, if you look closely at the blueprints, you'll see that Sony Ericsson's pretty much taken care of that. A screen you'll be able to rotate is present so there are two sets of buttons on either end of the gadget, emulating the layout of Sony's handheld.

As for games, Sony doesn't even need to worry about that. If it IS actually a PSP and a cellphone in one, all the company has to do is make the phone compatible to standard PSP games, and you'll have a lineup that's going to be pretty hard to compete with.

In any case, updates about the PSP phone as we get them, so keep it locked right here for any and all developments!

Sweet, a PSP phone. It does sound a tad eccentric though. I guess Sony is trying to step it up a notch making it tougher for Microsoft and Nintendo to compete. I wonder how they will counter.

Nice. Apple makes an iPhone and now Sony is making a PSP phone. The PSP cell phone sounds tight. It would definitely change cell phone gaming for sure. I can't wait for more updates.

Haha, yeah, but Sony seems to be making sure Nintendo won't be able to copy them and won't have many ideas left to put into a portable or Microsoft to even make a portable for competition.

Even though I love Sony Ericsson, I'll stick to my upcoming iPhone.
Like, gaming + cell phones = bad. Remember the Nokia N-Gage?

Wow, sounds interesting. I was just thinking about getting a new phone a few days ago too. Hopefully, if this happens, it won't have a massive price to it.

Well looking at the blueprints, it doesn't look all to awkward. I'd love to see an actual picture though.

Hrm...Maybe this will coincide with the slimline PSP release? I'd sell my current PSP to get a slimline PSP/phone...For sure! I'll probably never be able to afford a PS3 anyway.

looks pretty damn cool. I like how the plan has the screen rotating horizontally, that just seems like a cool idea

I remember when I bought the PSP about a month after it first came out. I thought it would be cool if they added a phone to it. It's been a little while, but maybe my wish has finally come true.

This is bogus. There is no PSP phone in development :\ read: Engadget article on this very phone. I'm not too pleased on how QJ.net likes to start rumors and speculations. Even by looking at the blueprints there isn't even any room for a UMD.

The blueprints don't even resemble a PSP.

It actually does. Look at the pic in the middle. The section that has been turned looks like a PSP.
