How the UMD Could have Won

The writer explains how if the price of the UMD format movies (currently almost twice a regular DVD) were to be cheaper, they would be a lot bigger of a hit than they are now.

Last week Gamestop had a Memorial Day weekend sale where they sold all their UMD movies for the awesome price of $4.99. And seeing as how I actually own a PSP, I jumped on that one like, well, something that jumps really fast.

    Yeah, I wish I could have gotten a few myself. It would probably be smarter to sell them after buying them that cheap, especially considering the points the guy made in saying that if the UMD were cheaper it would have been a bigger hit. ~_^

      Same, I already own all the movies I want on DVD or something. If I want I'll just rip them to my memory stick.

    I don't like watching movies on my PSP.... it's just strange.

    Still, if I had known they were only 5$, i definitely woulda got one.

    Well not to surprising really i knew it was 5 but i didnt have money to get one. But hey there still relatively cheap.

    That was pretty cheap on getting them. I hardly doubt I would of got one myself. But still that's cheap.

    I was in a Gamestop, but I didn't even think of getting UMDs. They had a bunch of things with price slashes, but all I got was a cooling stand for my Wii. 5 dollars is a great price.

    The UMD could have won if the PSP had the ability to output to a TV. Like the iPod. I'd buy movies for the iPod before a PSP for this reason alone.
