With the outstanding success of the Wii's Virtual Console, which to date has sold over 4.7 million games, many retro classics, such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Legend of Zelda can be downloaded for a small fee. However, there are many other lesser known games which offer similar entertainment value. Wired looks at ActRaiser, Ninja Spirit and Chew Man Fu, three great obscure retro games which are available on the Virtual Console.
Virtual Console, the classic game download service built into Nintendo's Wii console, has only been up and running for six months, and already 95 games are available on the service. For between $5 and $10 apiece, yesterday's smash hits like Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter II and Sonic the Hedgehog can be downloaded on demand.
But even retro games that weren't smash hits at the time can get a chance at greatness through the relatively risk-free digital delivery model. And some of these little-known releases are surprisingly fun, even now. Here are our picks of the best obscure classics.
