A boy from Thailand has committed suicide after his parents banned him from video games. The day he was banned, he told his friends that "tomorrow is my last day". He then jumped off the 6th floor of his school the next day.

A 12 year old boy in Bangkok, Thailand has killed himself after he was banned from playing video games. His parents had banned him earlier because they thought he was addicted to the games and needed to take a break.

Oh dear...there's really no need to go off the edge. I've been banned from playing games when I was younger a few times too, just need to learn to work around it, heh. I did end up playing much less afterwards, but to fill my gaming needs, I'd go by a friend's house, and then of course had my gameboy color handy.

I love how stupid people are, seriously. It's not as if his parents took video games away for the rest of his life, just banned him from them temporarily. But, apparently his parents were right. He must have been addicted if he felt the need to commit suicide for not being able to play them.

Conspiracy? Or a bad case of parenting?
I'd like to go with the former cause it sounds so cool.
Honestly, I really don't understand why someone would commit suicide just because they couldn't play games.
Currently I have all my consoles packed and the power cable of my PC removed because I've been playing too much. (I'm using a phone right now.) But you don't see me commit suicide, do you?

Surely this boy had an mental illness or something.

To kill yourself over games is not only unethical, but it seems that it can't be that important. You won't be able to EVER play them again, and not only that there are several other ways to vent your rage.

He either wasn't thinking clearly, had a mental illness (probably genetic) or video games to him are more important than his life.

Even though now he can never play them again.

This is why video games should be banned and/or HEAVILY monitored

The games aren't at fault, but the players are. Or at the very least those people who are meant to be their guardians (if they're too young).

Besides, why should the 80% of people who are perfectly fine with games suffer for a couple of idiots who can't control themselves?

Regardless, this is a rather sad event. My condolences to the family.

It's more like 99.99% of people who play fine. Are you telling me that 20% of the 10s of millions of people who play or have played video games end up doing somthing stupid regarding them?

"doing something stupid regarding them" is such a general statement that, yeah I'd say at LEAST 20% of gamers have done something stupid regarding them

Think of this from a neurological aspect okay.

Kids, even teenagers (yes I know, teens here will be ALL over me on this and I'll probably get flamed for it) do not have a solid connection between the frontal lobe of their brain. The frontal lobe is the logic side, the one that makes smart and wise decisions.

People often do not get a solid connection with that part of the brain, until mid-20's even. So, with the logic side of the brain not fully used, kids and teens are very impressionable. Addictions happen easily too, and when something, like in this situation video gaming, is taken away, can you expect kids to react smartly? Why do you think kids tend to be "I want!" and "It's about me first!" for the most part when it comes to their desires? That's another part of the brain which develops first, with the logic trailing behind.

This isn't mental illness . . . This is just a show of how impressionable kids and teens (flame shield is already up) are, especially when it comes to things which bring them pleasure. What was the kid thinking? He wasn't.

This is also why parenting is not an easy job, but must be done. Not just being all rules, but fun in moderation, and when rules come into play, EXPLAIN WHY!

My prayers for the parents, family, and all involved in such a tragedy.

12 years old in thailand is not as young as in US/Europe.
I believe that some thai series on TV are 10X worst than any videogame addiction .They show the new life style of the "winner" : you must be rich and have pale skin ... No wonder that some kids suicide.

Those parents sure were right when they said he was addicted. D:
Way too over the top and anyway that child must have had something wrong with him if he couldn't see the bigger picture and that he would eventually get them back.

Woah! Man, must be sad to be in that kid's spot. It happens to me too, when I fail a subject, my parents would take away all my video game privilidges. I would be so depressed sometimes, that if i ever get my video games back, I'll just break them. But then again I'm 17 now and I can control myself on when and cannot use my video games. School is more important to me. Plus, you will need a job to make money so you can buy the games, right? That's just my opinion.
