GTA IV Will Use Cars Trunks

Ameer | June 01, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
A rather skint article by way of images and actual information, but it does contain one exciting snippet of information; you can use car trunks in GTA IV!
"Press LB to open trunk." That's what a pop-up command told Official Xbox Magazine as a Rockstar representative approached a vehicle from the rear while demoing the game.

It sounds like a great addition to the game, considering how useful car trunks have proven to be in the world of organized (and disorganized) crime. Bodies, drugs, weapons, bombs, etc. all fit quite nicely.

I can see the ad campaign now:

"GTA IV - What junk is in YOUR trunk?"

It's a nice little touch. I always wanted to be able to open the trunk and stuff like bodies in it or just ammo.

That will be a great way to transport dead bodies and other things.

Haha cool! Thanks for the info Ameer. It's good to see a lot more realism brought into the game this year. Maybe you could store stuff in it, who knows?

I love the sound of this new feature! That means you'll be able to see inside the trunk fully when you lose the top in a crash!

I think we actually did this in GTA3. But only it was done in one special car.

This should be interesting. Besides bodies, it'll be fun to see what other sorts of things we'll be able to huck in the trunk for the game. Does this mean new and exciting "Junk in the Trunk" jokes will emerge from GTA IV?

Although I already knew about this feature, it's an interesting one nonetheless. I suspect Rockstar have many more tricks up their sleeves.

Wow, great to see that they are adding this in. It's little things like this that can make a game big, if you know what I mean.

This game will be the bomb.

This is a really cool addition. Imagine being able to transport dead bodies, drugs, and weapons... and being able to kidknap random peds. That would be awesome.

    *sigh*

well even though this is really really really cool..i cant help but wonder what type of idiots are gonna look way too into this and will cause more problems for rockstar/take two and the gta franchies then what they already have from moron parents who think the M stands for "motor vehicles"

This is a very nice addition to the game. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but trunks could be used to store alot of things including guns, ammo, clothes, and even bodies.

Little things like this make me want the game even more.

I don't really see this as anything cool, it's...a trunk.

Sure they're almost useful in real life, but we never need to transport dead bodies or guns or even clothes in a GTA, so this seems just like pointless fluff. Plus a whole button dedicated to it? Perhaps it's context sensitive, which I have it feeling it will be.

Maybe there'll be a mission where we will have to transport using the trunk. But you're right, Rebel, we can get guns from out of nowhere, who needs a trunk when we have that ability

It's about time this good but small feature made it into the game.

So, can you go up to any random trunk then? if thats the case, maybe there will be easter eggs...like, you find an abandoned car (you know, liked the wrecked, wheel-less ones in San Andreas) and pop the trunk, and find a skeleton in it or something? That would be great

But yeah, exactly WHAT will the trunks be used for? How would you get bodies in them, and out of them? Can you throw people over your shoulder or something? Perhaps it will just be for weapons storage...

"GTA IV - What junk is in YOUR trunk?"

That's pretty catchy. I like that.

Being able to open the trunk is a nice little feature to see included in GTA IV. Since this feature has been added I believe we'll have some missions where we'll have to hide things in our trunks. Hmm.

Pull up outside a building. Go to the trunt and get out your weapon and raid the building. Awesome

    Who knows...

In GTA3 you actually have to transport a car carrying a dead body in the trunk, you can see if the lid of the trunk is knocked off.

They can use it as some sort of weapon storage as well, seeing as the past GTA's had you replacing guns to your inventory instead of adding them (ex. 9mm handgun replaced by revolver). Maybe this could change the whole thing?

I was thinking about that as well. That would be tight. Instead of having to replace your 9mm with a revolver you could simply switch them in the trunk. That way when you want your 9mm back you can just go open the trunk and switch them back.

This seems to be good. I remeber the time I spent trying to open a trunk of a police car with a chainsaw in Vice City.

Big deal... it's a trunk. I have a feeling that you'll NEVER need it in the game.
