Afrika was only released in Japan, over a year ago. While the reviews were fairly good, it didn't look like a game that much American gamers would enjoy. Well for the few of you that wanted to play the game, there is some good news for you. The game is finally making its way overseas and will be released early fall in NA.

The PlayStation 3 is becoming known for its range of quirky, nontraditional games such as Flow, Flower, and Noby Noby Boy. Now, one of the first announced titles to fit into this alternative category has been given a due date, as Natsume said today that Rhino Software's Afrika would arrive on North American retail shelves for the PlayStation 3 during "early fall" 2009.

If only Toto had been tapped for the soundtrack...

Afrika's gameplay involves players venturing forth into a virtual wildlife preserve, with the aim of photographing wildlife in their natural habitat on an open African plain. The family-oriented title was produced in conjunction with National Geographic and features a knowledge bank offering encyclopedic data on the various animals in the game.

Great stuff, and good on Natsume.
Hopefully this does as well as Flower and we get more strange games.

For crying out loud, why must everything release during Fall? I have nothing to look forward to for another five months...

People go outside more in the summer so publishers time development/release schedules accordingly.

I'm forced to go outside more in the summer because I get bored of playing the same 4 games I bought last November. Normally, there's one big game that hits from April to May, other than that, there's no hope until fall.

Indeed, I think a lot of us still play games regularly in the summer...they should smarten up.

I hope there is a demo so I can see whether it is worth a purchase. I hope this is one of the lower price point games too (Like $49.99 CAN).

It's the kind of game that would especially benefit from a demo, yesss.

I'll try this out just for kicks. I'm a photographer so it would be interesting to check out a game. I'm curious as to the point though. Is it just taking photos? or do they somehow score them and you have to achieve something at the end?
