Ever wanted to play games and earn something in return? SkillGround lets you do so, in receiving cash prizes. But if you choose to simply play for fun, that is also fine.

Groove Games has unveiled the launch of a new feature called SkillGround.com, which is a new online service where users are able to compete for free and win cash prizes.

Aimed at gamers of a variety of skill levels, "from the casual player to the hardcore expert", the service facilitates its own ranking system, and offers a "secure, cheatproof” playing environment, ensuring that users are evenly matched and have a fair chance of walking away victorious.

As it stands, four titles are available: LA Street Racer, Kung Fu: Deadly Arts, Close Quarters Conflict and FPS WarPath. Ultimate Tour Golf is scheduled to appear this summer, with further additions "based on hugely popular and successful third party games" available later in the year.

All titles come with a variety of game modes including practice, tutorial, one-on-one, single player, and a deathmatch allowing up to eight players. Tournaments and score-specific matches have also been confirmed.

Beta figures reveal that over 15,000 users took part during the testing phase, recording over 200,000 sessions.

Sometimes you just need to sit down and ask yourself: Why do I have to be such a downer? Maybe you should just go run a hot bath and bleed out the next time the world is too much for you eh?

As per the article, I'm kind of intrigued. I'll check it out sometime later today.
