Sony have just announced their new motion sensor controller and showed a pretty extensive tech demo on stage which was awesome. It is coming in Spring 2010.

The controller utilizes the PS3 camera and the tech is based on the PS2's Eye Toy, but obviously in a much more advanced state.

i love how sony is stealing another idea from nintendo
not sure if i will pick this up when it comes out yet..
but a different controller will not be a seeling point of a $500 system still..but it might help a little.

Um, PS1 and PS2 used motion capture long before nintendo ever did, Just not as advanced.

So am i, i had a disk shaped controller that was very popular, you could steer by tilting it and such. Sure, it was 3rd party, but it was on a ps1 before it was ever in nintendos head

          Nintendo Powerglove.

Released in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System – the Powerglove was the earliest motion-control device for a home console. /wiki

Hehe, two years ago motion control was called a gimick now everyone is on the bandwagon.

Haha, damn i proper forgot about that.

BUT. That doesn't count because it never ever worked. All it was, was Motion. Forget the control.

Personally, I liked it. It didn't really have the gimicky look to it that I thought it would in the introduction (Oh boy, you're throwing a fireball), but the tech demo really showed off some great stuff. The RTS into FPS was very cool, as well as the bow and arrow section.

In terms of against Xbox's natal, they didn't really seem to show off it's full capabilities. I'm sure it does some amazing stuff, perhaps better than PS's motion sensor, but the demo they brought out seemed to do the same thing as Playstation's Eye but with 3D recognition.

It was rather entertaining, the eye toy sure has come a long way since it's release a few years ago. Have to admit, I have taken a lot of interest in this new motion controller...this whole motion idea could very well pave the way for the future of gaming. I just hope they keep regular controllers regardless.

So this is more Eyetoy tech than Motion sensing?

Funny though that both Microsoft and Sony released something like this.

And not only that, both also came out with a 'Mario Kart' game of their own, Joy Ride for M$ that includes the use of Avatars, and Modulation for PS3. It's quite the coincidence if you ask me.

Less a coincidence, more of "Nintendo is raking it in, lets follow suit"

Well, it's funny that both of them went this route for their conferences, same year and all. But yeah, overall, both companies clearly see Nintendo's domination, and took a different spin on things.

I'm sure they were influenced by Mario Kart Wii's sales for the racing games they brought out.

    Aww, damn it...

Between this, Natal, and the wiimotes, no matter which console I play, I'll wind up flailing my arms around like a douchebag..

I remember reading about Sony's patent on this thing and how they were aiming on making it

I was beginning to wonder if it was going to show up this gen.
