You just can't make this stuff up, and I hope no one is offended by Rene Rosa's take on the Dante's Inferno protest. I have more to say, but out of respect to those whose religious beliefs are different than mine, I will keep them ot myself. Honestly, this is some hysterical stuff, especially when you read what is on the flyer/pamphlet.

There are two hot-button issues you should stay away from in casual conversation: politics, and religion. Thankfully, video games aren't a kindly chit-chat, which means you can overthrow governments, fight your way in and out of hell, and maybe even use crosses as weapons. Hell, I've used crosses in Castlevania for years, and never thought much of anything about it. Unfortunately for Electronic Arts, some hardcore Christian activists don't quite see it the same way I do.

LOL! I wish I went this year... because honestly, they are right (lol) the cross is not a weapon (well it could be considered a weapon of terror/intimidation) - the cross was a torture and execution device. I am having catholic school flashbacks....

Wait, they're actually protesting a game where you kick Hell's ass? In the summation of the game, Dante is supposed to "fierce and hideous monsters, while also facing his own sins, a dark family past, and his unforgivable war crimes." To me, that's kind of like interactive church.

/agree I mean, he is seeking redemption, escaping hell just like in the Divine comedy - only with next gen action thrown in instead of a whimsical tour of Inferno, Purgatario and Paradisio <pardon spelling="spelling"></pardon>

A few ignorant Christians protest about things to do with hell that they know *bleep* all about. What's new?

The highly entertaining flyer is new! I want one to frame, lol!

'Our high score is in heaven and we hope you join the leader board'

I'm reminded of when Kevin Smith went to protest with protesters who claimed to know everything about his film Dogma and to know everything about him and his evil little ways, even though nobody there recognised him xD

I'm not gonna lie, that line is beautifully creative and hysterical. I can't stop laughing.

Also, where were these protesters during God of War? I did not hear one Christian object to those spinning blades of doom.

Can't say that I ever really enjoy the puns many people use. Good intentions perhaps but man puns used in those contexts are a big no IMO. At least, I'd never use them.

Except I do like that phrase "Hell is not a game" That's a good and truthful one without the cringe-worthy-ness of some others. But I hope this article doesn't stir up the whole "Christians are terrorists" and all that trash comments that are only said because of personal issues with Christianity and not anything to do with the article.

(On another thought, I'm thinking of adding a section to my website about Christianity and Video games. A Minister's take on the games and everything )

In any case, I'll have to look at the article later, Gotta get ready for church actually. I'll be back again though after I read it.

It probably will (stir up the comments about Christians, that is). Every group, clique, nationality, religion, yadayada, has a mass of idiots that other idiots judge the group, as a whole, on. It can't be helped. It's just unfortunate that more often then not (especially with religion) the idiots are more in the spotlight then the non-idiots. Shame really, but k-Sara.

Hm, it's kinda mild here in the comments section so far. Glad to see that one!

Just read the article. Honestly there's not much to say about it, all it says is there was a group of Christian protesters protesting Dante's Inferno.

I know nothing about the game, nor the book, so I can't say much about that. But the people seem to be . . . on fire with what they believe, but again acting foolishly with it.

I will say though, reading their pamphlet . . . Rest Assured that the Bible itself doesn't say your actions are what sends you to hell or heaven (whether you drink or not, play this game or not, etc.). It's a matter of following Jesus Christ. Think of it as you're in a hallway that leads somewhere and you have a door off to your right. To get to the place on the other side of the door, what do you have to do? WALK THROUGH THE DOOR! The door gets you to the awesome room that everyone would want to be in. Simple as that. If you don't walk through the door, then you simply end up going where the hallway leads. No actions on your part necessary. That make any sense? So this whole thing of "Dante's Inferno" will send you straight to hell . . . indeed no.

Things like this make me wish I had the time and ability to go to these places . . . I'd love to talk with these people!

I'm offended if the bulk of that was aimed at me, since I know it all already (probably wasn't but I'm a paranoid egomaniac so go figure).

Like I said though; just a small part of one group being ass-holes.

          HisServant77 Jun 5, 09
Lol, no Tiger it wasn't aimed at you. I just didn't want to have a whole new comment and make it seem like I ignored your comment to me, so I just used the reply to you to make it less "Hey, You completely ignored Tiger there!"

    I hate stuff like this.

I don't really follow any religion, but I'm still a supporter of religions because I think it can be a great thing, but stuff like this just makes a religion look bad, in my opinion.

I kind of see this flyer as propaganda, and that's not what Christianity is about, or at least it's not what it should be about.

You know what? Lemme ask this: What's the funniest line you see in this protest?

For me, it's between the "High Score" one mentioned earlier, and "Trade In Your Playstation for a PRAYstation"

    Beautiful.

TBH, I just like the way they said 'Real, actual Hell' as if there was a real hell, a real, actual hell and then after that you go to super, real, actual hell

I also find their lies about hell not having power-ups offensive

    "just say InferNO!" lol:P
    "EA- Electronic Antichrist."

I'm a true devoted Jesus Christ worshipper. These sort of things gets me concern.

I mean gaming is bad already, gets the soul tainted.

I don't know what sort of Christian these people are. If they are the Westminiter church group...the ones with the tag "God hate faqs". Then these people can be ignored!

I mean there are so many types of Christians out there, you don't even know who to trust. You see other Christians worshipping God, other worship Jesus Christ. You have the Jehovah's witness Christians.

Damn man...I won't say this is the reason why I don't attend church, but I don't attend church. I don't need to believe in God by attending church. Because I have a personal relation with Jesus Christ.

Anyway...what the hell does this have to do with Danet's Inferno!?? I never read the book. Is Dante's Inferno supposed to be a good thing or bad?
I did hear that the old book explains the 7 levels of hell and each sin puts you there etc.
Someone fill me in on this one.

(Don't tell me this is what's delaying HHG )

I don't see what the issue is. Its a game about hell, if you don't want your kids to play it (which they shouldn't regardless because chances are its going to be rated M) then don't let them play it, its as simple as that. I don't see why a protest is necessary, don't these people have anything better to do with their time? Like, I dunno, looking after their kids?
    • 1
      MusiKon Jun 4, 09
Maybe their kids are already damned by the faults of their own parenting and want to prevent it from happening to other families at all costs?

Or maybe the protesters are completely stupid and have their priorities fumbled up?

Or maybe they just wanted to give EA some free publicity?

Either way, EA wins this round.

I once was talking to this group of atheists and of course, you can imagine how that turned out.

But the thing is, there came a point when I told them "Look, I'm not here to beat you down. If I didn't care about you, I wouldn't be here. Do you think I enjoy coming into a group of people I know I won't be well received, and be called names and all that? I don't like abuse. The only reason I'm here is because I care enough to tell you something to help you out."

This article is, simply put, a major case of good intentions, bad actions, terrible way of going about it. It'd be like an anti-ET group going to an alien-lovers convention and picketing . . . Not the wisest course of action you know.

        Zero and X Jun 5, 09
Well being an atheist myself I wouldn't call you names or look down upon you because of your religious beliefs, that's just mean.

I believe you're right though about the protesters, they have good intentions, but having good intentions doesn't justify your actions.

Hmmm...I must have skipped the part of the Bible that says you're going to Hell if you play video games about Hell.

Gawd, I hope that it's a PR stunt. Surely there can't be people this petty and stupid in the world?

Yes, sadly there is. Ever heard of the lady who sued McDonalds because her coffee was so hot it burned her lips when she took a sip?

Sadly, this is just how some people think and act. Can't really get away from it. It helps though if you look at the people and think "Man, they're like little kids who don't know what in the world they're doing, and don't think straight."

I know Christian doesn't necessarily equate to stupid, bigoted and ignorant. It's a shame the christians who *are* all of those things, are so good at getting attention.

      HisServant77 Jun 4, 09

Nah, people just flock to spread the worst kind of news instead of any good news out there.

I have to admit though, that "leaderboard" line was win.

    StarJet Jun 6, 09
This kind of thing is what makes me glad that I'm not a christian. In my opinion, there is no God, no heaven and no hell. So yeah, I'll play Dante's Inferno. Definitely. Why would I want to have a Praystation instead of a playstation anyway?
Lame protestors. These freaks actually give good christians a bad name.
  • 0
    Dragoshi1 Jun 6, 09
What the hell is a praystation?

I'm christian and not as heavily involved in the stuff as these guys, if I'm even remotely into this stuff.

I want Danteh's(pronounced Don Teh) Inferno, and if I can romp through hell and kill demons and shit, then LET ME.

I mean, I already did so in like, the last 40 games I've played
