Nintendo President Satoru Iwata talked to CNBC and revealed that the company scrapped a completed handheld sometime in the last three years before showing it to the public.

It seems that Nintendo had completed development on a new handheld system sometime in the last three years, but canceled it before revealing it to the public. Iwata would not elaborate on whether it was another refresh of the DS (which has been upgraded twice, first as the DS Lite and more recently as the DSi) or if it was the fabled "Game Boy Evolution."

or if it was the fabled "Game Boy Evolution."

Haha, first thing that came to mind, to be honest.

Well the DSI showed up, which is essentially a new handheld anyway.

No it isn't. It is that kind of thinking that causes people to run out and spend $130 to get a camera add-on. The DSi is the same freaking system with a few trivial peices of hardware added to it. Just as the Advanced SP was the same system but they added a flip screen and a rechargable battery. The DS, DS Lite, and DSi are all the same system.

I said essentially. Give me some credit.

If you said they are essentially the same system, it would have made more sense.

If you said "essentially a new handheld (in their eyes)" (which is what I believe you meant) then Koloth wouldn't have waxed philosophical on ya.

You expect them to release a new handheld when the dead horse of the DS is relatively intact and the stick they're beating it with still isn't broken?

    Blasphemy!
