Nintendo's announced a new Pokemon spin-off that's going to be released on the Japanese WiiWare service soon. The game, titled, Melee! Pokemon Scramble, is being developed by the same company that worked on the My Pokemon Ranch WiiWare game and will be released on June 16. The game puts a twist on the usual tun-based affair. Players are given Pokemon which they must train and then send off to an arena to duke it out with various other Pokemon. The game will also be featuring 4-player multiplayer.

While we were off doing whatever, Nintendo announced a new Pokémon game for WiiWare in Japan. Melee! Pokémon Scramble is developed by the same company (Ambrella) as My Pokémon Ranch, but is combat-based instead of standing-around-based. In fact, it may be the most actiony Pokémon game yet!

The player controls a remote-controlled robot Pokémon, building strength by fighting Pokémon in the wild, in anticipation of a big tournament. Gameplay is real-time, like a Zelda or Ys-type action RPG. And, of course, four players can face off in the game's Battle Royale arena mode.

Melee! Pokémon Scramble will be out in Japan on June 16. No release dates have been announced outside of Japan, but Nintendo won't deprive the rest of the world of its biggest brand.

This is something I'll definitely be keeping an eye on. I've had nothing to do with WiiWare before but this is definitely a temptation for me.

Why couldn't this come out when I HAD a wii? A 3-D(although with chibi pokemanz)battle brawler with a story mode!!! Maybe Nintendo will port it to DS and allow us to find and trade all 493(plus diff forms) pokemon!!! And 3-D battles over wifi

Dammit WiiWare. No I'll really have to force my Wii into doing that update.
The concept is interesting though and those Pokemon look super cute. ^^

I've definitely better keep my eyes on this one. It should be good if you can import your Pokemon from Platinum on to it.

This is a stupid little overpriced button masher. What's wrong with you all? Two attacks and that's it?

Smash Brothers lets you MANIPULATE the attacks in the cardinal directions, especially when jumping. Same with old arcade fighters.

Here, it's just hurr or just durr. Who's the button masher now?
