TheGamerAccess.com has posted some news about the latest motion-sensing devices coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 later this generation. This seems very interesting and may be the very opposite of what others might think.

When assessing the head to head between Microsoft and Sony's E3 briefings this year, there may be something of a role reversal visible.

You mean the incredibly limited renewed iToy that looks pretty dull with a poor controller is better than a motion capture which needs no controller, can listen to voice activation and can let you do almost anything on your 360?

    Sorry, I'm not buying that.

And you thought Sony sounded one-sided...

I'll admit that some of the things it can do are pretty good. But it all seems last gen and it's not exactly as revolutionary as Natal is.

Do you think that the Eye is better?

He never said the Eye is better, he said you sounded very one-sided.

Sony actually showed a fair bit of what their system could do. While Microsoft did the same the majority of their good stuff was behind trailers. While i no doubt believe Natal can do what is shown with Milo, industry insiders have shown the system in another light. Milo doesn't actually recognise speech just tone making it no better than Lips or Singstar at voice recognition. They also found many occasion when Milo never understood them and did nothing.

Other uses of Natal such as the motion controls in actual games like Burnout was sluggish and slow unlike the trailer showed at E3. Natal is a good system and may be amazing but right now hands on users have come back from it with mixed reaction.

Sony on the other hand showed everything their system could do at that point in the live demo. Yes the demo wasn't pretty but it wasn't meant to be. Though in theory with the right software the Playstation Eye has everything out of the box that Natal has, it has the camera and the tri microphone set-up for crisp and accurate voice pickup. What it will come down to is whether people want no controller or two small controllers. I can already see it that both systems will likely try and force a plethora of accessories down your throat so it doesn't matter really.

          quote Gizmondo
Microsoft's Project Natal took a step away from the stage and closer to the living room when Gizmodo's Matt Buchanan and Mark Wilson took the system for a test drive.

While the preview did consist of some of the same style of tech demos we saw on Monday, the exciting part involved playing Burnout Revenge, an existing 360 game, with the system. The game was able to run even with Natal's processing overhead, controlled via an air steering wheel and moving feet forward and backward to represent the gas.

Despite their dedicated efforts to get the system to hiccup, Gizmodo was impressed with the device, commenting on how natural and polished the experience felt. Despite the usual pre-production glitches, Natal seems ready to take on the gaming world whenever it comes out. Video after the jump.

          quote IGN
US, June 1, 2009 - With Microsoft unveiling the potentially revolutionary Project Natal during its press conference today, we've already considered how games could be changed with such accurate motion controls. At a Microsoft event, we had the opportunity to experience Project Natal as it has been implemented into a pre-existing game: Burnout Paradise.

The game controls surprisingly well, with your hands controlling the steering and your feet controlling the car's acceleration. Stepping forward gives your ride some juice and stepping back hits the brakes.

Although this is just a minor taste of what's possible with Project Natal, it's great to see that the system will be possible with previously released games that might not have been designed with motion control in mind.

          quote Eurogamer
Twist your imaginary steering wheel left, and the car goes left. Step backwards, and you brake. It's responsive and it's intuitive. And this is just the start, reckons Kipman.
Many previews state burnout worked really well and Natal was really responsive? I don't remember any sources saying it was sluggish and slow?

Plus both of the controllers are still in development, Sony still haven't decided the final look yet. So they have a long time to improve and fine tweak their controllers.

Nah I checked out Krunal's pending article, it's:

Microsoft: Natal based on blueprints created by Hitler, probably can't compete with Playstation Eye
Even MS knows its inevitable defeat.

I believe Dystopia was merely being humourous, and not serious fanboy-style.

At least I took it that way. Anyone else?

Well no freaking crap they're gonna say their product is superior to their competitors!

    I believe I heard Sony's body-waggle device was more accurate than Microsoft's body-waggle device.

    Still not interested in either.

Both concepts had redeeming qualities. I liked the IDEA of Microsofts alot more and am more attracted to it. But theres no denying the sheer brilliance that the Playstation Motion Control had during that tech demo. That was awesome to see.

Will probably buy both because of that..

I have the Playstation Eye, and although I know all the cool stuff I can do with it, I don't use it :S

I can see a lot of problems with the fact that the Natal has to judge body movement and posture, without any reference to help with (Such as the PS Eye's wand)

Standard controler will remain "strong" for their ease of use , especially on fighting(DBZ)and sports games.
The "G25" will remain the best wheel for racing games (vibrations and Force Feedback).
The "PS3 mote" and "natal" are new accessories for new type of games , they can't replace traditional controler.

When mentioning fighting games DBZ is the first that comes to your mind? Srsly?

        cartridge Jun 8, 09
No , but it was a good exemple for show the limit of a motion sensor.
(DBZ has teleportation in a 3D environement).

But Street Fighter, Tekken or Soul Calibur wouldn't have been?

          cartridge Jun 8, 09
Street Fighter, Tekken and Soul Calibur are fighting games ... It's hard enough to play with a controler , no human beying could compete with motion detection ...
Like I said : The "PS3 mote" and "natal" are new accessories for new type of games , they can't replace traditional controler.

          I agree.

          That's not the point.

I'm merely shocked that someone (anyone) would think first of DBZ when talking fighting games when there are so many better titles of that genre available.
