Coming this Friday to the European Virtual Console is a well-loved classic: the original Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64. The original eight of Mario, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Fox, Yoshi, and Kirby get ready to duke it out across the game's nine stages.

Other games hitting Nintendo's European downloadable services this week are Cocoto Platform Jumper for WiiWare, and Asphalt 4: Elite Racing and Sudoku 150! For Challengers for DSiWare.

Hmm... Don't get me wrong, I'd loved the series right back to the original N64 release, but I played it recently and it's pretty much unplayable. It's so slow and lacking depth compared to the GC release, let alone Wii, it feels almost broken.

Super Smash Bros. would've better been left the way it was in my memories, I'm afraid...

        Disagree!
Of course it's not as deep but I find it very fun, still, and take a different kind of pleasure in its somewhat simplistic gameplay.

It's the speed of it more than anything though! Of course, it was fine at the time, but now it's SO slow I find it too difficult to judge the timing of moves etc.!

Since when did the brawl have depth?

Ah yes, I could see that. Kinda like Virtua Fighter 1-3 vs 4-5. Haha. I cant play the old games at all.

The speed is slow especially if you've been playing Melee recently. But it still holds up if you can get some 4 player action going. They were never able to recreate the "crunch" of smash attacks in Melee or Brawl (with the exception of Ike's fully charged ones ).

    Awesome.

I haven't purchased a Virtual Console game in nearly a year, and I was hoping they would release this sooner or later. I'll make sure I pick this thing up with my Wii points.

I have a 64, no point in buying it.

When are they making a SSB for the DSi?
