Remember the 16 Year Old who quit school to play Guitar Hero professionally? Seventeen-year-old Swedish girl Sophie "inzane" Regnér has done the same.

After having trouble concentrating at school due to her late-night gaming, she dropped out and joined Swedish gaming team "Pink Zinic" in order to focus on playing Counter-Strike full-time. To earn money on the side, she models for a friend.

For her full interview, go to the source.

    roflwaffle counter-strike

Maybe if she took up something like TF2 she would be taken more seriously.

Uh...do you know about CAL and CPL? CS has been the staple game for both leagues for quite a long time. I doubt someone playing TF2 would make more money than a CS player. CS has a cult following, TF2 not so much.

TF2's pro scene is a joke. Not many people play the game at a high level, unlike CS.

She truly is living a dream, perhaps not Counter-Strike but still.

She's a bit late on the CS bandwagon. Or am I out of the loop and CS is still going strong? Although, I suppose a 100 grand would tempt any gamer.

Its still going very strong, especially in tournaments etc.Look at practically any gaming tourney thing and they will have CS.

It's been ages since I played it myself, so I was wondering what all the uproar was about. Nearly forgot it was one of the official games for the WCG. >

100 grand in SEK is only 7590 dollars. What the *bleep* is wrong with her quitting school and playing CS if she's good at it and can make a lot of money? Nothing. Stop calling people who play CS and make money off it cowards just because they don't want to sign up with the military. It's not the same thing.

To be honest man, I wasnt aware of the money aspect, I wasnt aware that its possible to make a living off of it.

That said, it doesnt change anything. In fact, it shouldnt be possible even for people to make a living off of it, in my proffessional opinion; because it contributes nothing to society as a whole; there's only so far we can go with "entertainment" and "recreation"; what next, not only are we gonna play games of real life events, but now we're also gonna WATCH those games being played? How much more distant can you get from life? Seriously man, I dont say this to neccessarily insult anyone, quite the contrary I say it to help people - dont hold yourself back, is my point. You'll be dead soon enough, if you genuinely do enjoy what you do in counter strike, or any game for that matter, why not seek it out in a greater form, a higher form? More risk, more reward.

    @ carouselambra

Reward? You get crap in the Swedish army, stop spouting your pro-war bullshit and how is it distancing yourself from life? You play with FRIENDS and meet new people so you're not anti-social in any way and you can make a living off it. Why would you stop doing something you can live off of, which has minimal risk to your health (she doesn't look like someone who'd just sit around all day and not exercise at least a bit) and join the army and risk getting killed if you're shipped off overseas? Go spout that nonsense somewhere else.

Let me save you some time; he's ignorant, arrogant and highly opinionated. The only way you can win in an argument against him is to stop paying him any attention. Trust me, he's just not worth talking to when he's like this.

And then we'll see Counter-Strike become yesterday's game, and she'll have no education to help her later in the future.

Oh wait, it IS yesterday's game.

Haha, she's in for a rude awakening.

Tiger of Wu Jun 12, 09
Not really; there are still a fair number of CSS tournaments about and even when CSS does become redundant the next popular FPS isn't going to have too different of a formular, so she'll get used to it pretty quickly.

That's not to say it was a good idea though, of course.

        Capn Droid Jun 12, 09
Well, at some point, it'll become yesterday's game, right? :

Tiger of Wu Jun 12, 09
It will but that doesn't mean she's in for a rude awakening when it does, because it'll be replaced by the next one, you see?

She will get a rude awakening at some point but it won't have anything to do with a game being outdated

Man, she left school to competively play a vastly outdated game? GG on life, i guess. Even if another game came along who's to say she'll be any good at it.

      Reenee Jun 12, 09
A game that's STILL being played to this day? You mean like WoW, or Everquest, or Half-Life 2, or Super Mario, or Marvel vs. Capcom 2?

      AznLiquid Jul 3, 09
Counter-Strike still has one of the biggest professional gaming scenes in the world. The only game that tops it is Starcraft in Korea. I don't agree with her decision, but it's far more acceptable than dropping out to play Guitar Hero.

    Onvacation Jun 12, 09
Wtf you on about? all those games have nothing to do with it being outdated compared to current gen FPS.

      Reenee Jun 14, 09
You said "vastly outdated game", not "vastly outdated FPS". Don't twist my words.
