Patrick Soderlund, senior vice-president of EA Games Europe confirmed that a sequel to the acclaimed Mirror's Edge is currently in development in his interview with videogamer.com at E3. No details have been announced yet, but I'm sure fans of the first ME will be thrilled at the news.

When asked for an update on the future of the IP, Soderlund told us: “Mirror’s Edge was a risky move. It was a bold move, a very innovative and inspiring move. The game wasn’t perfect by any means. We would have liked the game to sell better even though the game has sold better than most people think.”

He added: “You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure. It’s just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I’m excited about what we do.”

Soderlund’s comments are the first confirmation that a sequel is in development. Up to this point the game had only been mentioned by EA as a title in consideration. During a December 2008 conference call EA CEO John Riccitiello assured fans that the company wasn’t giving up on the IP, despite less than stellar sales.

If you stand still, you will notice that ME actually had some very very crisp and amazing graphics. the motion blur kind of...blurred that.

LMFAO at the motion blur blurring the graphics statement. It's true though, it was very crisp when standing still LOL

The first one didnt warrant a fullprice first day purchase but finding it at a budget price was a fine choice on my part! The game really is quite enjoyable to play. Really fresh. And I cannot remember who it was, but someone got the Mirrors Edge bag on here and I am still jealous! Didnt see it here in NZ!

I actually enjoyed the first one immensely. I'll be anticipating the sequel. It was a really beautiful game.

But I do agree with Killosity that it's more satisfying to buy it on sale than I feel it would have been at full price. If the sequel shapes up to look nice, though, I might have to run out as soon as I can afford it.

I didn't play the first one but I heard it was great. I'll pick up the first one and then rent the second one.
